Scratched glass and PVC in door (bit long)

Hi. I'm hoping somebody has a remedy for me.

DD (7) has scratched the glass in the porch door with a very sharp piece of slate. A 2ft X and lots of little x's are now etched into the glass.

She also scratched lots and lots of little x's into the plastic part of the PVC and the brass coloured handle and also the stonework.

The stone can be sanded so I'm not too worried about that but is there any way to repair the glass and PVC.

I'm so annoyed with DD and I've no idea how to punish her for it but that's another thread.

Is there anything that can be done?

All I can see when I walk in and out of the house is the scratches. TIA

I don't think the glass can be repaired, it would require replacing but if anybody can fix/ cover it up these guys can www.magicman.co.uk/ they have fixed damage on a couple of my construction projects and I've been seriously impressed at what they can do.

The glass can easily be replaced, glass often gets broken. There will be someone local to you who repairs PVC double glazing, plastic doors and patio doors, because they go wrong quite a lot. If it is fairly modern the glass should be a standard size, but it is very common for new glass DG panels to be ordered to fit non-standard sizes.

If you ask around a few friends and neighbours there will be some who have problems with plastic doors and used a local repairman, and can tell you if they think he was good.

If you are quoted more than a few hundred pounds, consider if it would be better value to get a wooden door. It will cost less, be more secure, and last ten times as long. If you ask your friends and neighbours if they have ever had a wooden door go wrong, they will be puzzled at the question.

Thanks Piglet We've been thinking of getting a replacement so this could be a very good excuse Grin
