Darkish/North - Facing Hallway - which off-white?

Have stripped stairs of a revolting dark brown paint/stain & will be re-painting pure brilliant white satin in common with all the other woodwork.

Want a hardwearing washable finish in a light colour that won't look cold - I'm having difficulty in telling what the undertones are on many of my samples.

Would Crown's milk white work??

For the walls! Floor is oak - effect.

Please? I can clearly see Pointing has yellow tones but not what tones are in Crown milk white Sad

I haave aa dark haall and stripped floors have painted it f&b Pale Hound. It's very soothing and welcoming imo!

Johnstones 'Arundel White' is worth considering. It's nicer as nice as F&B but far less expensive and available in a hard-wearing finish which is essential for a hallway Smile

Actually< it could be sold as Leyland Arundel White. I think they are the same company though.

Thankyou! I really don't want f&b as it's not hard-wearing enough for the punishment my hall/stairs & landing receive.

I'll look at Arundel!

What did you use to strip your stairs? We also have revolting dark brown stain on ours - not sure if it's original or not - but makes hall very gloomy

I've used Crown Whisper Snowfall on my north facing hall, it's a warm grey - no yellow tones (so not heading towards cream) but just dark enough to make my white woodwork look good.

Just seen your post SwedishEdith, I used Klingstrip mainly which is like a poultice stripper. Loads of sanding & the reddish tones of the woodstain stayed in tact so ended up using a two part wood bleach to lighten further.

It's been a fecking nightmare tbh because it is such a thoroughfare so constantly having to clean up each days work has been a PITA & I'd never attempt it again!

I have Dulux Timeless everywhere, I rather like it.

Milk White is quite cold IME.

I sympathise with stripping the wood - we've been doing ours since last October Blush We used Klingstrip to get most of it off, but there's a fair few bits which are really resistant and I think we're going to have to sand it off. Starting to regret not just buying carpet!
