Do you have to do wooden floors all in one go?

I realise this sounds like a daft question.

Downstairs we have 2 reception rooms, kitchen and hallway (and downstairs loo).

The front room has lovely carpet but the family room has nasty carpet and the hall, loo and kitchen all have nasty laminate. There are double doors between kitchen and family room.

I would love to replace the whole lot with wood floor. Thing is, I would like to have a new kitchen at some point (can't afford to do everything now).

So could I do the family room and hall now, and leave the nasty laminate in the kitchen until we redo that, or would it make more sense to put up with things until we can afford to do it all in one go?

If you do it room by room you will have to have a wooden divider/joiner between the 2 floors. I asked our floor fitter and he said even if we had a floating floor there would still need to be a join if we did the rest at a later date.

Hmm, that's not ideal.

Guess I'll just have to put up with the laminate and get saving Sad

Bamboo is cheaper than wood and actually more durable/hard wearing - our floor fitter really rates it!

We love the bamboo floor that we put down - it is totally family proof despite what my thugs children put it through.
But similar to your dilemma, I put it in the dining room only, and now I want to knock through to the kitchen, continuing the same floor.
I am hoping that because it is a click-together kind of product, that we can just continue it seamlessly through when I've convinced my dh that it is necessary we do the work
