having major work down to house, downstairs extending the living area to include anew kitchen my DH has decided he wants the living are tiled at present we have laminate wood which we've both grown to hate but not sure about tiles, the idea he has is to use same tiles as kitchen with underfloor heating I'm just not convinced anyone seen or has this?

The only place I have seen this is in holiday let's abroad. I personally felt it was a bit clinical and not my cup of tea. Also remember tiles can smash!

I have a kitchen/dining/family room at the rear of our house and have tiled the kitchen and reclaimed wood flooring in the other areas... I love it and because the wooden floor boards are 'doubled up' there is no change in floor height.

I have seen houses with limestone/ travertine tiling through the kitchen and living areas. It can look very nice, and lends itself to big rugs.

Stone slabs maybe, but surely not kitchen tiles? I think you would end up with so many rugs it would almost be carpeted anyway.

Kitchen tiles would look clinical and I can't picture it, but yes stone slabs of some sort could look nice

My aunt has big grey slabs, slate I think? But it's in the countryside. Looks lovely

I live abroad where this is common, big slab types rather than slippery tiles.

First house they were off-white and showed every speck, second house were shades of brown.

Not great in the wrong colour, can be amusing to watch your dog "do a bambi" though.

Ex-SIL had beautiful sandstone coloured ones which absorbed all liquid. She could never clean them properly and lived on her nerves following toddlers around...

I know three people in northern Ireland who have this (think it is quite in over there). All have large off white ceramic tiles. It does look very chic but its a bit cold. One of three is my mil and I find it very stressful going to her house as I have small children and I worry about them hitting their heads!
