Beige tiles on kitchen floor - nightmare?

We are about to do our kitchen, and having only ever had black or grey floor tiles before, I really want a pale floor. Are they horrendous to keep clean? We don't have any pets, but two dc.

I have beige (we didn't choose it, was there when we moved). It's sort of flecky. Not too bad but because of the flecks camouflaging dirt! Otherwise I'd feel forced to mop daily probably. Go for flecky beige is my advice.

I have cream. Beautiful but HELLISH to keep clean, just general walking creates marks, I'm keeping Supermops going!!

Pinkjenny · 28/04/2012 07:23

I'm not averse to mopping, ds is a messy bugger and I mop/Hoover every thirty five seconds. What about marking? Does it mark or scratch easily? I don't want something that will look grubby after six months.

I think it would be fine. I have a relatively shiny black tiled floor in my kitchen and I'm forever sweeping and mopping it as every single crumb shows. I don't think crumbs would be so obvious on a lighter coloured floor, I'm definitely going for a non black floor next time!

We had beige but have switched to black slate. Whilst the tiles were ok to keep clean the grout wasn't it looked grey and dingy especially by the ackdoor where it got a lot of traffic.

Pinkjenny · 28/04/2012 07:46

Grout, yes, another issue. I really don't want a dark floor Sad

Mine is a good floor and there are no marks, it does look lovely and I knew when I chose it the upkeep would be major. It's ten years old now and the grout is dark but that's to be expected!

HandMadeTail · 28/04/2012 08:13

We used to have a dark slate coloured floor, and now have a lovely limestone floor. It doesn't show all the crumbs, which the dog hovers up, anyway and unlike margaritas floor, it doesn't seem to show every foot print, either.

margaritaaPracatan · 28/04/2012 08:18

Not every footprint but it's cream so it will show grey-ish marks if not washed for a day or two. I still wouldn't change it though! It's so bright and I have a large kitchen/breakfast room, it look striking. I nearly chose terracotta, so glad I didn't.

I have mud coloured tiles, I can't remember when I moppedGrin

IvanaHumpalot · 28/04/2012 09:32

My floor is pale beige with flecks, but I have grey grout which looks nice and hides the grub!

Pinkjenny · 28/04/2012 15:00

Grey grout, excellent.

Pale stone coloured tiles with grey grout here, much easier to keep looking good than black IMO.

lindsell · 28/04/2012 15:26

Beige sort of colour travertine (so not uniform colour) with grey grout, the tiles are fine and quite easy to keep clean and as the colour is varied then any muck doesn't show too badly but I really don't like the grey grout and wish my tiler had listened to my instructions to use a brown toned one as I don't think the grey looks right.

Charleymouse · 28/04/2012 18:05

PJ will text you pic of kitchen floor black and bathroom floor beige.

Pinkjenny · 01/05/2012 15:09

Thanks Charley, also for the advice re fires. I am definitely going for the beige tile with a putty coloured grout. I may well live to regret it, but it's a change.

Sounds lovely! No worries.

cherrypieplum · 06/05/2012 15:51

I have a beige tiled kitchen floor which isn't too bad to keep clean even with two dogs. I wish I'd chosen a darker grout though because where the footfall is heavier the grout has stained. Its not very noticeable but drives me nuts!

javotte · 06/05/2012 18:08

I have white tiles in my kitchen. I have to mop about 2-3 times a week.
