I painted the tiles in the fireplace gold in a fit of anti-peacock madness!

What can I do?

What kind of paint and what kind of tiles?

If the tiles are glazed you should be able to get it off eventually Grin

I think it was a pot of gold hobby paint....

The tiles were ceramic with peacocks..... What was I thinking...

Is hobby paint that indestructable stuff that you paint on tin models? Confused.

New plan - lets look for replacement tiles!

Have googled hobby paint remover and they suggest brake fluid or oven cleaner - but they are suggesting particular brands that are not available in the uk (not safe).

Isopropyl alcohol seems to be the magic ingredient, that will make the paint flake and be scraped off. You just need to find some Grin

Next time you have a bright idea sleep on it Grin

Home Strip's bloody marvellous.

But I've never tried it on hobby paint...

Call these people. Removing paint is what they do.

oreocrumbs · 25/04/2012 22:27

You can give it a go. It won't damage the ceramic tiles and thats the main thing.

I'm wondering if you can use a fine wire wool with it to get it off or do you think that would scratch?

I cant remember, it was more than 10 years ago....

I now remember the tiles fondly, and want them back!!

I will give those chemicals a go.

I have become a great fan of period features, and stuff like white wooden window shutters, and bespoke white painted cabinets....

Wouldn't use wire wool on elderly tiles because of scratchiness. Worn-in green pan scrubber's the thing (fresh one might be too abrasive).

QuintessentialShadows · 25/04/2012 22:34

I would not use wirewool, dont worry. Nor a kitchen knife!

Shock You saw me?!

QuintessentialShadows · 25/04/2012 22:37

I was there. Inside your fire place, dressed up as Father Christmas, I seriously thought the knife was meant for me... Wink

Well that explains why it wasn't so drafty this winter. That and the funny smell...

QuintessentialShadows · 25/04/2012 22:42

Yup, I am the chimney monster....
