Laminate match to pine floorboards?

We will be removing the wall between our kitchen and dining room. Currently the kitchen is floored with horrible cold orangey-red stone tiles, while the dining room has pine floorboards which extend into the sitting room (seperated by french doors). The pine boards are in good condition and I really don't want to remove or cover them up. However, I do want to refloor the kitchen.
So my question is:
Is it possible to match a new laminate floor with my existing pine floor? I visited my nearest floor specialist today and was told that pine laminate is pretty much non-existant as quite dated now. I am willing to sand the existing dining/sitting room floor and restain. Is it possible to stain pine boards to look like oak or walnut? (Hoping to have walnut effect worktop from Ikea)
Would really appreciate any advice Smile

IMO, rather than trying to match flooring I would just get a different floor that compliments it. Unless you get a perfect match its an obvious 'mis match' IYSWIM.

Is it laminate you favour? If not a dark slate is a nice contrast to wood, or if you want something more plate friendly then karndean/amtico flooring (posh lino). That comes in a huge array of designs (woods, tile effect, patterns etc)

You can sand and stain the pine, and you will be able to get it to a similar shade as walnut, but it won't look exactly like walnut because it has a different grain and colouration pattern to pine. Oak should be a bit eaier to get to. Have you got any off cuts, or can you buy a piece of pine and get some tester before you start so you know where you will end up? It will still look nice though.

Would be a shame to put a permanent floor over your quarry tiles in case you change your mind.

IIRC Ikea do antique pine patterned laminate or you might find a rustic oak tones in OK.

here you go

Thank you both.

Oreocrumbs I had thought of laying vinyl but would have to level the floor first. Though will probably have to do that anyway!

Fossil97 didn't know pine laminate was available. Thanks for the link.

Hmm, lots to think about..... Smile

Amtico has a cheaper range called Spacia
