Kitchen experts - where can I get a kitchen like this?

So I have completely fallen in love with this kitchen but apparently it is discontinued Fired Earth. It is the kitchen in the top right picture - can see closer if you click into that gallery and scroll on 2/3 pics.

I love that the hinges are visble and I especially love that the doors and drawers are not flush with the frame. Even if I could afford FE (which I can't!) their current ranges are not as much to my taste as they don't look as rustic. If anyone knows where I can get one like the one in the picture I'd be delighted.

Thanks skandi that sounds quite good. How many units are you having for that price?

fizzwhirl am also interested in slate having read your post, like laveinarde woudl be good to hear what you did when you had no worktop, did you ahve anything temporary so you coudl use the kitchen?

Fizzwhirl. I am really happy to hear from someone who has a higham kitchen. And that it's good.

Pannacotta. In terms of cost I forgot to mention that.£17k was cabinetry and installation but without worktops and appliances. Hth.

Pannacotta · 26/04/2012 16:53

Thanks skandi.

Pannacotta. It was for 19 units and a 7 drawer with a 4 door dresser larder on top and end panels etc. some of the 19 units form an island there was also an extractor housing to sit above a range.

I will get my new quote shortly as I changed my mind on having a range cooker and instead getting hob and ovens in the island and this means more units in place of range and to house ovens. So more £ obviously. Sigh.

Thinking of granite worktops but interesting about slate so am going to look up. Smile

Pannacotta · 26/04/2012 18:43

That is a lot of units for your money!
We have just had a quote for approx 12 units for 24K not including worktop or fitting! Ouch....
I also thought the slate linked to looked good so have ordered samples, I like the matt finish and the fact it is local and not quarried in India by children (as lots of granite is I think)...

skandi1 · 26/04/2012 20:08

Pannacotta. Yes I likes the very matt look of the slate too. It's what I am after.

Yes. Higham look like good value but as I said price is going up with the additional units I am now being quoted for.

I really wanted a mercury range cooker but it would mean cooking with my back to the kitchen and dining room which I hate. So back to built in and in the island.

Am off to order slate samples after dinner (just wrestled dc into bed). Smile

Laveinarde and Pannacotta: we were actually kitchen-less for a quite a while, since we had to remove the old kitchen before doing electrical work, plastering, floor sanding... and in the middle of all that we discovered a structural problem which we had to fix before we could continue... which put all our other dates out, and meant we had to re-book everyone. Oh dear, I had almost forgotten how much of a nightmare it all was!

Our study became a temporary kitchen, and I just had to walk over to the bathroom for water (washing up was done in the bath!). I used the slow cooker a lot, plus microwave and rice cooker (i.e. everything that runs on electricity). If I was doing it again, I'd get an electric steamer for variety, but I didn't know about those at the time! And I also discovered that you can boil an egg in a kettle Grin.

Once we had the units and the sink in, someone (the plumber, I think) put a board across some of the units as a temporary work surface. A day or so later, the gas-fitter had fitted the oven, and we finally had what felt like a pretty functional kitchen again! It was very, very nice when the proper surfaces arrived and everything was all done though :)

fizzwhirl · 30/04/2012 18:21

laveinarde: we had a lot of trouble deciding what to do for flooring! We have a mixture of quarry tiles and polished wood floorboards: for various reasons it would have been difficult for us to add an extra layer of flooring, so we just went with what was already there!

I do like our quarry tiles, but the red is a really strong colour. I think a light stone colour would look nice, or alternatively I actually think slate flooring might still work, so long as the kitchen is quite light.
