I have used made to measure roller blinds from Blinds UK, and was very please with them. Very fast, think they do next day delivery if you pay more. They seemed to have very competitive prices too.

I was just coming on here to say I've just discovered Blinds UK! Hillarys price was £175 for a blind that I paid £63 for from Blinds UK.

That blind was a made to measure roman blind, but they do basic ready made ones too for a very good price.

There is a really easy to follow guide to measure and fit the blinds on that website too Smile

CalamityKate · 24/04/2012 09:46

A lady I clean for has these and they work really well.

we have them from IKEA, very easy to install.

Inside is better than outside - it's only the fabric that's blackout so light will come around the edges, so being in a recess will block more. Having said that even having it on the outside will make the room pretty dark. Most ready bought blinds are easy to cut-to-fit. The fabric is plastic backed so can be cut with scissors or a craft knife and they are usually wound around thin aluminium tubes which can be cut with a hacksaw (or you can use my DH's method which is cut through the whole lot with a saw and tidy the edges afterwards Grin)

I work for IKEA (in that department actually) so will of course link our Tupplur ones, but you can get similar ones from places like Argos or Littlewoods. This is the budget end of things if you can't/don't want to go for the made to fit Smile

I'm looking for some at the moment as well. Can't link as on phone but am probably going for ready made from Dunelm. They're a few cm wider than I need so trying to find out whether you can trim them. I can't afford the made to measure at the moment, but lots online.

belindarose · 24/04/2012 09:58

Oh, just read post above properly. Seems like we will be able to cut them then.

We have these for our twins room, they adjust to most size windows and just stick to the window, if we go away we take it with us

If you are happy to fit them yourself then buy on-line or Ikea depending how close they are to you. If buying on-line you can ask for samples to be sent so you can choose in full knowledge of what you are buying.

If not use a local company to buy them from a fit them. We have done both, mainly buying on-line but mine were from blinds-2go.com and I even measured up and had them delivered the day after we moved into our new house Grin

Dh fitted our blinds, competent DIYer, if you or someone you know can use a drill it should be relatively easy.

The blinds we had professionally fitted were perfect fit blinds because they are so precise. Although these are fantastic, I don't believe they do a blackout blind.

We bought black out material cut it to a bit bigger than window size and velcroed them on -bat cave darkness on a budget!

oreocrumbs · 24/04/2012 20:36

The Blinds UK ones were really easy to fit, its a well laid out process and they talk you through it all well. I had no problems and DP and I are not very competent DIYers Grin
