New kitchen-will glass splash backs look dated/naff in couple of years?

Having waited ten years to renovate my kitchen have seen many fashions come and go, am planning handleless white gloss units, white Corian worktops and oak flooring, considering greeny turquoise glass splash backs but fear it wil all look horribly dated by next year.Should i go for turquoise tiles instead? I know white gloss are ubiquitous at moment too but am going for very simple design.

Thanks pickledsibling-glad to hear that about Corian and oak flooring.Have you got engineered oak or solid oak?

Solis oak but 'rustic' with knots etc , 9in wide boards with a tongue and a groove so they interlock.

Why not just get the splashback you like now as you can change it in a few years if you want. However, for the units get ones you know you will be happy with for a long time. I wouldn't recommend stainless steel splashback as it is easy to scuff and then never looks the same again. Go for glass if that is what you wanted!

Finally went for matt silk cream handleless units, cream Corian and planning on oak floor.

Sounds great.

Why handleless though, doesn't the top of the unit get all smudgy?

Where are you getting your matt silk handleless units from ArcticRoll? I need to order a kitchen this week (so I can keep up with the builders progress) and the best one I've found is a white gloss handlesless but I'd rather not gloss... but am worried about matt being difficult to keep clean looking.

The matt is just as easy to keep clean as the gloss
My dh has matt lacquer samples and they don't show as many fingerprints as they have not got the shine and wipe down just the same as gloss.
there lacquered though so have a smooth coat

I have just uploaded a couple of pics of my new "dated" kitchen with gloss cabinets, corian worktops and bronze mirror glass splashbacks. I don't care how dated it is or will become, I love it and over the last 10 years of dreaming of a lovely kitchen and buying hundreds of interior mags, I too kept coming back to the simple, white/ivory gloss as my favourite.

If that is what you like OP, you should go for it Smile.

oooh sleep - check your glass roof!!
Can I ask who did that for you?

Sleepwhenidie · 13/08/2012 07:28

It was a glazing company called Vaspa, the original design had steel beams going across but they suggested the glass ones and we are so glad we went for them, even though they cost a bit more, they are amazing.

Thanks - thei website has nothing similar at all.... but then I noticed that their address puts them next to Preedy Glass who make stuff like this so they have clearly decided to up their game. Very nice indeed!

ArcticRoll, can I ask where you went for cream matt handless units? I'm finding the options are really limited!
