Relocating to the country...scared witless

Any advice on moving from city to village in south east? We moved from city centre in the north to a small town six months ago and now looking to buy a house even further out cos it is so expensive here. We have found a lovely house which we really like but it is in a village, pub, shops, village hall, supermarket and station. But I am really nervous about it. I miss city life loads, the convenience, shops, galleries, transport..but don't miss the traffic or some parts of city life. Maybe it's just accepting this is why people move out, to get space, good schools...any reassurance?

Sounds like a pretty well serviced village - if there's a train station can you get to a reasonable sized town/city for a fix of urban adventure when you need it?
I live in a pretty small village, but can be in Manchester or Leeds within an hour.

I like the quiet, I like knowing my neighbours, if I had a decent garden I'd be even happier.

Thanks Beamur, do you get bored and fed up? I mean with not many options. I default to cafes even for a change of scene. We struggle on rainy days to find things to do.

Well I work, have a 5 yd old, 2 stepkids, a dog and other pets so not much time to get bored really!
My village is a short walk away from quite a buzzy small town though, with nice cafes, cinema, pubs, station, library, etc.
My DP would like to relocate to somewhere a bit quieter still, but I need to feel connected to the possibility of urban life too, (even if the reality is that we don't go out that much) and don't like the idea of being reliant on a car even though I drive and we run 2 cars. Having locals shops and facilities is good and you may find there is more going on there than you think - there are often sports/social groups too. My DP plays cricket for a local non league team and also climbs, so knows lots of people.

Hi rubyblue - i am can relate to being scared and we are thinking of moving only 1/2 a mile from our present home! So I can imagine you must be feeling scared. Part of it is that change is scary anyway. I've been scared with every single moce I've made, and then after a few weeks have adapted. We are adaptable, I think, as humans.

Village sounds so lovely, I am quite envious. I guess we all have to make some compromises on location if we can't afford it.

And doesn't have to be forever.
