Grey, grey, grey,or grey?! How the feck do you decide?

It's the last room in the house to have the paint decided on...
All other rooms have either been painted,or the paint is waiting to go on,this room, the last room,is the hub of the home so to speak,
it is the dinning room really but the stairs and the galley kitchen run off it.
It's a north facing room, though it has a large window.
We have after much umming and ahhing decided a grey would be best, because of a number if things,
namely the dark wood furniture and kitchen side board, and the slightly lighter wood atop the brick fireplace, and the white kitchen units, and the light wood flooring...all a bit 'much' teamed with almost any other coulor.

But how do I choose?

We like:
F&B French gray
'little green' French grey
and Craig and rose moonstone grey

The last one is HALF the price of the other two,and seems like a good brand...
Do you think one is vastly better than another?!

Arrggghhhhhh!!!

I think I'm going with cornforth white....safe option?
Not cold?
And puffy has used it in a similar situation....

Cornforth White is lovely. It's not cold as it's got a tiny bit of purple tone to it.

I would say either Cornforth White or Little Greene French Grey.

Tanyaaah · 12/04/2012 12:12

We got a Little Greene colour mixed in Crown paint as they'd run out of the little Greene base, it was absolutely as good as little greene and a bit easier to paint with if I remember correctly, and cheaper!
This was at an independent decorating shop/trade place.

ps I have Normandy Grey by little greene, its lovely but definitely looks green rather than grey and is a very warm colour.

"I really, really like the Craig and rose matsutake...I think it's the one! "

toasted beige

Try this one instead - looks exactly the same on the piccies. I have it in my sitting room with white woodwork and white panelled door, beech floor and cream sofas and I love it, it is rich without being too dark.

Much, much cheaper too (I'd say about half the price of Craig and Rose) and I found great depth of colour in one coat, didn't need a second one (on a cream wall). Two pots for a smallish room (with one door, window, and fireplace that obv didn't need painting).

Thankyou everyone!

We have plumbed for cornforth white.

And now I don't have to think about paint again for a good long time! Grin

I hope the painting all goes well! Good luck.

We used f&b cornforth white in our lounge then carried it through to the hall/stairs & landing.

We had the decorator match the colour in Dulux tough paint because the stairs are so narrow in our house and get bumped a lot. You really cannot tell the difference between the two rooms, and using the Dulux rather f&b kept the cost down.

Tanyaaah · 12/04/2012 14:10

Ahhh, I love thinking about paint!

FriggFRIGG · 12/04/2012 14:16

Thanks!

DP has just thrown this into the mix....thoughts?

Glad you have chosen your colour but I would recommend getting a sample pot first so you can actually see it in the room.

I've just spent 2 days going backwards and forwards to Homebase for sample pots for the bedroom. I don't think you can trust the colour cards or internet for colour. They really are often nothing like the actual colour.

We have also just had a conservatory. I chose Farrow and Ball French Grey from a wood sample painted in it in the showroom. It is very much a pale green/grey. I would never have chosen it from a colour card. It really looks nothing like it.

Good luck!

Pannacotta · 12/04/2012 16:09

The Wickes colour looks quite lilacy to me, rather than grey.
If you like the Criag and Rose colour I linked to you coudl get it colour matched by JOhnstons or Crown.
I dont know Conforth White so hard to comment on that.

minipie · 12/04/2012 17:01

Oh god yes, definitely get sample pots. Colours look so different on the wall. And computer screens vary wildly as to colour so really not reliable.

claudedebussy · 12/04/2012 18:49

i second minipie - there really is no substitute.

kitsmummy · 13/04/2012 11:00

Looks pink on my computer Confused

FriggFRIGG · 13/04/2012 14:54

Yeah,I think it's too lilacy/pinky...DP would have a different,Bright coulor in every room if I'd let him.

I bought cornforth white today,it's going up on Monday Smile
Thanks everyone!

We used the farrow and ball one in our bathroom and it's lovely so i would say go for that.

myron · 17/04/2012 17:29

Dulux Trade Neutrals Good comparison but more cost effective. I think that I will abandon my F&B fantasties and stick to this range.

madcows · 20/04/2012 15:07

Try Dulux Dusty Moss... really lovely. I posted about it back in Nov when we had a painting 'crisis' (the grey was more a purple....)
