I have no idea where to start, help me!
They are for the recess either side of the chimney breast in pretty much every room...some I want just high shelves, others top to bottom...need to be reasonably cheap as we are rapidly approaching our maximum budget!

Thankyou...

Well I'm in the sane position

We bought some ikea Billys to tide us over when we first moved in

I'm in mourning for our old house which had cupboards in the bottom hand and shelves above

I so want the same but I suppose they'd be £££

I'm toying with putting in shelves myself. I keep watching videos and reading tutorials but I have 0 diy experience. I waver between thinking 'go for it, how hard can it be' to realizing I don't even own a saw

Wish I was a carpenter

Sorry no help

The stuff we used (ages ago) was a system whereby you put up 2 vertical strips onto/into which the shelf brackets fitted, so you had as many or as few as you wanted. Like the top two items here:

Practical rather than beautiful, but if you fill the shelves, who sees them?

More than the £2.57 budget I've got available I fear

I even looked up evening classes for a carpentry one. Couldn't find one

I love making stuff, I just don't have the knowledge, tools, skills, time or money. It frustrates me. I want to be able to pop up a few shelves and make a small cupboard. I don't want to have to sell a kidney to pay someone else to do it

Iambaboon · 09/04/2012 18:59

Can't you recycle frigg for materials?

If I knew someone with the skills and inclination I'd deffo get them to do it

Can't you cannibalise some existing furniture or freecycle? Or buy a shabby old sideboard or bookcase off eBay and use the wood?

That's sort of what I'm thinking and I wonder why my house is more mr trebus than country living

FriggFRIGGItsEostreAgain · 09/04/2012 19:01

Grin hmm,I don't think I'm brave enough to do it that way...argh,I don't know...I'll have to speak to FIL....
