Kitchen floor - how long would you expect it to last?

Our kitchen floor (Marmoleum tiles) has started to look distinctly past its best.

Would I be unreasonable and extravagant to replace it after 7/8 years, or is that par for the course?

Just idle curiosity really - how long would you expect a naice kitchen to continue to look Ideal Home before bits needed replacing?

About 10 years probably, so maybe you're not far off?

We had the original floorboards in our kitchen sanded and sealed about 10 years ago, and had them resealed last year ... they still look fab. :)

I think it depends on the material. I have a stone floor I expect that it should last a lifetime as long as it is cared for. With wood I would expect a lot of years, but also that it would require maintenence every so many years (sanded and re varnished or whatever).

I'm not sure what the properties of marmolium are, but I would expect that by 10 years I would have to replace them, so I don't think you are too far out. Is it prone to fading/staining etc - if so then maybe 5-10 years.

I think it probably depends on how much usage it gets and how hard your family is on it! My parents have marmoleum on their kitchen and bathroom floors and we've found it very hard wearing - but that was for three adults, plus occasional visits by children.

Marmoleum should last longer as it has a 15 year warranty. This link details how to get it back looking good. "http://www.forbo-flooring.co.uk/For-Your-Home/Installation-maintenance/Cleaning-Maintenance/". We followed this and we pleased with the results.

We've had our marmoleum floor down for 11 years, and it still looks as good as new.
