Rightmove / findaproperty / Zoopla etc - what's the difference?

Are they basically the same or is one of them more well used than others?

Which do I need to look at to be sure I've probably seen everything? Do I need to look at all of them to be sure?

TIA :)

I only recently discovered Zoopla.

In terms of properties for sale, if I do the same search on rightmove and zoopla, rightmove throws up more results. This might be a regional thing, of course.

However, Zoopla does show you the prices paid for other property in that road, which could be useful in determining what offer to make. Obviously, this is only really any use if there's a regular turnover of property in the area, if you're looking at a village where nothing has come up for sale since 2004, then it might not be very helpful Smile.

Owned by 2 different companies. Right move used highly in England. Still used in Scotland but not as much. We have other advertising portals which are used more. Zoopla are taking over digital property group so will become much stronger in the market place as zoopla will now also be Globrix, prime location and find me a property. Competition could be strong but I think it will become difficult for smaller estate agents due to the costs involved. It is already a small fortune to advertise with right move each month.

I really like the facility in rightmove that links directly to local schools ofsted etc, and I like zooming in on satellite view. Zoopla doesn't have nearly as much on in the areas I'm looking, and what it does have are also on Rightmove and prime location. I do like the zoopla facility of seeing how long it's been on market and any price changes. There are different properties on Right Move and Prime Location so you do have to keep a check on both. If you only can face one I'd go for Right Move.

Having said all that, I haven't found a house yet...!

Thanks for the replies everyone :)

I can face more than one site. Sadly I find it quite compulsive!

I also like RightMove best because you can see distance from schools easily.

I was mainly wondering if I need to look at more than one to make sure I've seen all the properties in our price bracket. It sounds like I'm going to need to look at all of them to make sure I've got it covered then?!

We reckon we can just afford a 3 bed in need of renovation (or cheaper than usual for some other reason) in the areas we're interested in. They do come up from time to time, so I want to make sure I catch them when they do!

If you are in Scotland you will find more on S1 homes than rightmove.

We're in England right now but the tips on Scotland are useful thanks - DP is Scottish and we may well move back there in a few years. We do idly look at houses there from time to time!

In our part of Wales most seem to use Findaproperty and Rightmove. One big agent isn't on one but is on the other. Appears only 2 agents out of about 5 local seems to be on Zoopla. Horses for courses by the sound of it. I'm with threeleftfeet - way too compulsive!

Different agents are signed up to different sites so yes you do need to look at them all. The big agents will be signed up to all but the smaller ones may only sign up to one (or none!!) of these sites.

most sites have email alert facilities so put in your criteria and you will be emailed the new matching properties, so it's not too onerous.

Rightmove has a handy "draw a map" search facility so you can search in a specific area rather than just by postcode or town name.

There's also primelocation, globrix, nestoria... and probably lots of others I've never heard of.
