How do I work out (roughly) how much it is going to cost us to re-carpet our house?

I don't want to go to the faff of having a company round until I have a very rough ballpark figure in my head.

It is a large 3 bed house, two large reception rooms, three double bedrooms, hall, two landings, three flights of stairs.

Any ideas?

You need to measure the space and calculate the square meterage, at least roughly. Then price up the carpet you want; there are loads of websites.

Don't forget to add in the cost of underlay (worth paying for good stuff rather than getting it "free") and fitting. Roughly £5 per square metre for fitting although depends where you are in uk.

  1. Count sq m
  2. Add underlay cost per sq m
  3. Add cost for removal & disposal of old carpets if required
  4. Add fitting cost.

I think costs 3 and 4 vary quite a bit so you may need to yellow page a couple of carpet fitters.

Just don't buy cream if you have DC or pets Grin. I wasted £1700 on lovely carpets this waySad.
