Help! Letting agent threatening to kick me out

I moved into my rented flat in 2008. My latest Assured Shorthold Tenancy expired in 2011 and since then I've been on a Period Tenancy. I rent through a letting agency. Due to serious illness I've just got behind with rent by one month (meaning I am one month in arrears).

I wrote to the letting agent asking for another month to come up with the one month arrears. (Aside from the one month owing my normal rent is paid on time each month). The reply from the letting agent was a very aggressive email saying they will advise the landlord to either kick me out with 2 weeks notice OR to pursue the month's rent through a Debt Collection Agency. I phoned the letting agent to ask if the landlord would consider allowing me to simply pay the missing month's rent in a month's time and she was so rude to me that I burst into tears immediately after the call.

My question is, can I really be kicked out with just 2 weeks notice? I'm still unwell and not in a fit state to move or find another property.

Don't let them threaten you. In this economic climate many tenants are way behind with their rent. One months arrears is not that bad. They're probably just trying it on to frighten you

but you owe the money so need to find a way to pay it back asap. Shame you can't talk to the landlord who may be more ameniable

The OP has said she/he has offered to clear the arrears within one month.

It is not your agents decission. The Landlord would have paid a considerable sum for the agent to find a tenant (usually one months rent) therefore if you are usually a good payer most landlords would just ask for a repayment plan put in place for the arrears.
My DH and I have properties we let and have one lady that has been in one of our houses for 8 years, a couple of years ago she fould herself in financial difficulties and we asked she pay £10 a week more to clear the dept (3 months of arrears) she told us why she had problems we accepted that.

Write or call your Landlord I am sure they can work something out for you. Agents are paid to put the frighteners on you. And as with any debt as long as you come clean most lenders are ok.

Best of luck
