Planning site notices - can you remove them?

I am talking about the yellow notices that the local council puts up to publicise any received planning applications.

Our planning officer says that he put them up on Friday, but they are nowhere to be seen, and he has no further obligations or cares about it.

So, firstly, if we know who removed them have they committed any form of offence?

Secondly, if the Council are made aware that the notices were removed within a few hours of being put up, are they obliged to re-post the notices?

In the meantime, we have erected our own notices on adjacent areas - who knows how long they will last, but I didn't know the legal position and doing a search on the web has not, as yet, given me any answers.

TIA.

I don't think you should worry too much about it. Legally as long as the notices have been displayed, that's all that's needed. I think they will write to immediate neighbours as well (although not sure if every council still does this).

Are you worried about some sort of backlash from people who say they weren't consulted?
