Has anyone used Cole and Son wallpaper?

I've just bought some to put up in our cloakroom and it says paste the wall not the paper. I've done a lot of wallpapering over the years, but always pasted the paper and left to stand to expand, did you paste the wall? If so did you use the ready mixed paste as well? And lining paper on the walls?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

We useed some and had problems with the paste showing through.
It was a while ago and I wasnt here when the decorator put it up and he refused to put it right so we were left with marked paper.
So I would suggest doing what the instructions say...

Thanks pannacotta, I'm a bit worried about that as the surface is very matt, but I thought there was more chance of getting paste on the front of the paper if I papered the wall. Maybe I should just get their paste too.

Use 1000 or 1200 grade lining paper first.

Use ready-mixed wallpaper paste; the best for expensive wallpapers is Hall's Beeline but it's hard to find because it is both expensive and has a short shelf-life. If it smells off, take it back and insist on a replacement.

Thank you Thomas - I was really hoping to get away without lining paper as walls are flat and painted - do you think its necessary? Also which Halls Beeline paste? I'll try to locate locally as we live in a large city. And would you paste the wall not the paper - doesn't the paper need o absorb?

Is it something a diyer can do, I think I'm pretty good at wallpapering, but I'm beginning to waver now!

How old is the plaster? If it's less than a couple of years old, you may find settlement cracks will eventually bring the paper down without lining paper.

AFAIK there is only one Beeline paste. IIRC it's got a green lid. It's the Rolls Royce of pastes and your building merchant may tell you not to bother with such an expensive product, especially if it's just a downstairs loo.

Same for DIY'ing - a wall-papered loo is a bit of fun, and it's such a small room that it's not the end of the world if it's not done well.

Just googled and turns out Hall's have half a dozen pastes! But we've always used the green one. I can't answer the pasting the wall/paper question - afraid I always get a man in for this kind of thing, am too much of a nutjob perfectionist to attempt DIY
