where do you keep your dvd player/sky box/amp etc, now you don't need a big TV board?

DVD player/freeview built in. So just the television.

Purplehonesty · 25/03/2012 08:27

That's why we didn't. Thought the rest of the stuff would look odd on it's own and then if I hid it in a cupboard I would have to keep getting up and opening the doors to make the remotes work

Ineedacleaneriamalazyslattern · 25/03/2012 08:29

Not me but a friend. The bracket she has to hand the tv also has glass shelves attached under tv for those things

RupertTheBear · 25/03/2012 08:36

In a cupboard in the alcove (tv is on chimney breast) with a magic eye so they work with the doors shut.

crypes · 25/03/2012 08:44

Ours is on a catilever bracket and underneath my dh put the skybox on little brackets

ItsallGreektome · 25/03/2012 08:48

We have some glass shelves. They have the DVD player the wii and dvd's and wii games on.

bigbadbarry · 25/03/2012 09:54

Thanks. Not sure glass shelves aren't going to look really odd in our lounge, even if they are the most popular option. Am going to have to consider (but fast because the electrician is coming at 8 tomorrow morning!)

What's a magic eye, Rupert ?

bigbadbarry · 25/03/2012 09:58

Rupert does the magic eye work for everything (amp, dvd player) or just the sky box?

OP posts:
RupertTheBear · 25/03/2012 19:50

Sorry for late reply, the magic eye is a little button thingy that sits on the door of the cupboard (in fact it might go right through - I seem to remember there was drilling involved) and picks up all the remote signals so everything works with the door shut. Yes it works for everything, sky, amp, playstation.

mumatron · 25/03/2012 19:53

We have the glass shelves too. Ours aren't attached to the tv bracket though. We bought them separate.

RupertTheBear · 25/03/2012 19:56

this kind of thing

SandyChick · 27/03/2012 10:00

We have our tv on chimney breast and sky box etc in a cupboard in the alcove. The power socket is on the wall behind tv and all the cables for sky eyc go through the chimney wall into the alcove and into the back of the cupboard so it's all hidden.

Personally I would prefer the tv to be on a stand on a tv unit but dh likes it on the wall.

Vickles · 27/03/2012 11:18

Interesting topic.
DH would LOVE a tv on the wall.. but, it would be on a chimney breast.. above a gas fire (that we use occasionally in the winter). And that is why we haven't gone for the idea, and for the extra cost of a better tv.
What's the rule for tv's on chimney breast with gas fire? Am I right, that it's a complete no no.
Thanks Rupert for the link...x

annalouiseh · 27/03/2012 11:35

vickles i don't think there is an issue with the gas or other fireplaces.

Also look at the images on google

we were lucky as renovated from scratch so the Dh built a stud wall so the tv looks set back in and boxed in the kitchen so all cables are hidden and in other rooms had chased all the sky, playstation cables at the start so they all sit in a side board below

PastGrace · 27/03/2012 11:44

We have the TV on the wall and still have a tv stand/coffee table thing underneath (like this), but instead of having the TV on the top of the table we have photoframes/a lamp/magazines.
