Who else gets stressed about letting agent inspections - am sure it's not just me

Got my latest inspection on Monday - they happen about every 3 months and I always get fairly stressed about them. This one's letter came with an extra paragraph telling me they may take photos - usually done if they need to report problems to the landlord but also where a property is being neglected. It also says "We would ask that properties are cleaned and tidied before inspections are carried out so they are presented at their best". Makes me feel as if I am trying to sell the house to them or something like that. Am slightly wondering whether I ought to tidy the bookshelves more (they have a lived in look) but am settling for a more general tidy and clean (and DCs have done excellent tidying in their rooms). Is at times like these I wish I still owned a house....

Every 3 months... fuck that.

Yes I get incredibly stressed, I suffer migraines and crippling fatigue and like my quite dark room away from others. I also have 3 autistic family members (2 of who stress and struggle round others) so we see our house as our sanctuary. Having people in it is insanely stressful, luckily its only once a year for us (well twice if you include the gas check) but even that is too much.

People who say just get over it must be very privileged to not have disabilities and take such ablest attitudes. Yes, telling an autistic person to magically get over their anxiety (which has physical effects, they have ended up in A&E due to blood pressure and heart palpitations as a result of the anxiety) of having a complete stranger trespass and invade their private space is just oh so easy.

Are you talking to me?

Actually, apart from the A&E thing, that IS me. I bloody hate people being in my home. I've refused to sign a lease that stated 3 monthly inspections as a result.

But, it's got sod all to do with being 'ableist' - I didn't want the thread bumper to panic, because most of these inspections are completely innoculous and most landlord's agents genuinely don't care about clutter, etc.

But, feel free to chuck any more assumptions you'd like to my way! O_O

I'm sorry your landlord is an absolute arsehole. In that respect, I AM priviledged - none have ever treated me the way you have described.

The renters' rights bill will stop any future landlords evicting people because they have an inch of dirt in the house or because they don't like where their furniture is placed, by the way (that must be an air circulation thing - that's pretty anal of them for some that's probably their fault).

Fingers crossed it will be in place by winter, and people won't have to have crippling anxiety about how their use of rental homes is perceived.

I was in a rented flat for 14 years up until this past September.
I also had inspections about every 6 months, but very often they wouldn't turn up, and it wouldn't get rescheduled very promptly. So it often ended up being more like every 8-9 months.
I'd make an effort to run the hoover round, put the washing away away and clean the kitchen, but this is also my home. I'm not busting a ball to scrub every inch.
Only once, about 5 years in, did I get a snotty report back after the inspection, complaining that it wasn't really clean enough and there "were too many bottles on the floor in the bathroom." I replied with a slightly politer version of "get fucked", and "if there had actually been some storage provided in the bathroom, I wouldn't have to have my bottles of bleach on the floor by the toilet."
It only happened that once, and I never again had any sort of feedback during the time I lived there.
