Shelf to stack washer & dryer

We want to convert one of our larder cupboards into a mini laundry & put in a washing machine with separate dryer sitting on s shelf above but no idea how to create a shelf strong enough for such a large machine - any ideas?

Getting the the bloody thing on the shelf may be a whole new thread entirely Grin
Thanks
LCN

We did this in a previous house. The cupboard was just wide enough for the appliances and the taps/drain. Make sure that the tap and the plug are installed at the front of the cupboard or in another easy to get to place. You do not want to be crawling around in the dark under a shelf if things start leaking of you need to disconnect the power. (also, connecting the appliances with their short flexes to a plug at the back of the cupboard whilst supporting them at the same time is a job best left to snake men)

We used 2.5 cm thick boards - probably overkill, a tumble drier is actually not very heavy so 2 people can easily lift it up. We put the tumble drier on a non-slip mat, the kind you have under rugs on wooden floors, and it never moved at all.

The drier shelf was a bit higher than than the washing machine leaving space for a box for washing powder etc on top of the washing machine.

Leave enough space for adequate ventilation around the appliances!

You don't need a shelf, just puy the dryer on top of the washing machine. Dryers are much lighter than washers so putting them on isn't too difficult.

We've got an off-cut of kitchen worktop doing the job.

Thanks - I hadn't realised dryers were so much lighter than washers - like the idea of space for washing powder box etc so will reuse our old kitchen work top. Tips on plumbing etc also gratefully noted!

We have the same set up as Frenchy, dryer right on top of the washer, no shelf. Never had a problem and to be quite honest it never actually occurred to me that we might need a shelf...?!?!!

If you have the space fit a piece of board on to a pair of drawer runners. You then have a pull out shelf between the top of the washing machine and the bottom of the dryer that comes in handy for folding clothes etc.
