Is this crazily expensive for some plain wall-mounted acrylic photo frames?

Thanks to a recent conversion we've now got a good-sized entrance room/front room - not sure what to call it, anyway, at the moment it's just bland off-white walls, no decoration to speak of so I've had some travel pix of ours enlarged to 6 x 8 inches and just wanted to put them up on the wall in plain, clear frames.

These would be perfect but are really expensive. I got a quote for 20 (roughly the number we'd need) and it came to more than £400 including VAT and delivery. Sounds to me like an absolutely huge amount to spend on some frames but maybe I'm out of touch?

Can anyone advise/suggest an alternative?

Thanks v much

I think thats a good price for the quality. Cheaper acrylic does look cheap iyswim. Ikea for example aren't as clear

crikey, I m out of touch then. Thanks for the feedback though, v useful. I'd go for a cheaper one and risk it looking cheaper if I could find a suitable one but they all seem to have coloured or metal frames or can't be wall-mounted.

That's only £20 per frame which isn't really that much

We got some plain wooden frames made for some awkward sized prints we brought back from holidays and they cost about £40 each. Most of the acrylic ones I've seen start about £20-25

Righto, thanks Wonky. As ever MN a very useful sounding board. Will go back to DH and tell him I'm reliably informed it's a good deal

Does it work out cheaper to buy a bigger frame and put 4 photos in together?

fiddlerintheloft · 16/03/2012 13:01

Soup - yes, i think it would but I don't think it'll work with the size of the prints/shape of the wall. Thanks anyway.

Actually while we're discussing it, do you think it sounds like a nice idea or might it make the hall feel like the reception area of a dental surgery? i.e. white walls, travel pix in acrylic frames. We are hoping to get a piano as well at some point (if we can find a suitably battered second hand one) so that should soften the mood I suppose.

I wondered if it would look too busy with so many frames (hence the suggestion of putting more than one in a frame). Even though they're clear there will be all those little silver pegs visible.

I don't think it will look like a dental surgery especially once there are shoes, coats and other assorted crap scattered all over the floor. Or is that just my house?

fiddlerintheloft · 16/03/2012 13:33

both good points Soup. And if we just had 8 or 12 it would be a fair bit less expensive too!

As a total to spend on photo frames it does sound a lot, because you are buying so many, but the price per unit sounds fair.

It's all a bit matchy matchy for me though, I prefer a mix of frames.

fiddlerintheloft · 17/03/2012 10:02

trixy - know what you mean. The trouble is the photos themselves are so vivid and different that I think different frames as well would distract from them

I think those frames look very smart. i'd cough up the coins myself.
