Painting with a 7 week old

Being at home is reminding me of all the decorating jobs that need doing. When DS(3) is at nursery (3 afternoons a week) I think i could get some decorating jobs done, if i brake the jobs down, so sanding one day, painting a door frame the next, a skirting board the next day ect after about 3 weeks my living room should be done.

But will the paint fumes be bad for my 7 week olds lungs?

I figure i could do the sanding while he is sleeping in another room so he wouldn't be breathing in the dust.

you can hoover up the dust with a cylinder, but plaster dust is very bad for vacs, so preferably use a henry or something if you can lay your hands on one; or an old one that you don't mind damaging. If it does not have a good bag and filters some of the dust will blow out.

Damp mopping and sponging will get the dust up better and cleaner than sweeping.

I am very careful with dust as somewhat athsmatic so I always use a mask and wash my overalls and hair as soon as I finish, as well as a general shower. You will see dust masks in the DIY sheds and hardware shops, get the ones with a plastic valve on the front.

For the fumes leave the windows wide open all day and there will not be much left by evening. Paint dries by fresh air not by heat. See which direction the wind is blowing, you want the airflow to be in under the door and out through the window rather than blowing the dust into the house.
