Comfy toilet?

You guys are so good with suggestions that i have a rather personal one for you! .... can anyone recommend a toilet that is .... well... comfortable?

I'm having to buy a bathroom without seeing it and all of the websites I look at (understandably!) have pictures of the toilet with the seat down so I can't see if they are those awful thin toilet seats and can't work out if the shape is comfortable or no.... it's one of my bugbears - uncomfortable toilets!

Has anyone bought/tried/got one that is a good bet for a good sturdy seat?? (bathroom will be contemporary and simple if that helps at all so wide traditional ones aren't going to work - I know that would be the safer option though!)

Thanks in advance!

I can't recomend one but just wanted to say try and find time to go to b&q or somewhere and try a few so you have an idea. Everyone is different!

Its one of my bugbears too, in our house I don't use the family bathroom loo, and DP doesn't use the ensuite!

Neither of us like the downstairs loo! We are like goldilocks and the three loos in this house Grin

Sounds like us Oreo! Even my two year old has a preferred loo! (luckily he likes the downstairs one so we don't argue - yet - it's a nightmare when we have visitors though!

I'm living abroad and the house is back in the UK so I can't try them out (they just don't have the same ones here..... you're lucky if you can find a loo at all - most of them are squats!) - was hoping someone would pop up and say "I love my loo! here's where you can buy it".... ok, might have been a bit optimistic there but I got some really good advice on the rest of the bathroom so I can live in hope! :-)

Oh Lord squats shudders at the memory of being fantastically drunk in Thailland using one eek

Well I have no further advice, the one we have that I don't like is (I think) called a continental toilet, it has a shelf in the pot rather than straightish sides down to the water. That has a thin rim and the seat is like a rounded rectangle, so you probably don't want one of them.

I think the one I like is a standard cheapie that you get in a basic bathroom set so you might want to try one of them and then if you really don't like it you could change it for a better one and not be too out of pocket.

I really like the eco toilet from wickes. It is a one piece system so no overflow to worry about, small and i think comfy. Might look a bit lost if you have a massive bathroom but i have a toilet seperate from the bathroom so is ideal for the smaller space. Hopefully my plumber will be installing mine soon ( well as soon as i have made my mind up about what tiles we are having)

squats are not my favourite..... but public squats here are better than the normal ones.... with wet footprints on the seat!!

Oh gosh I'd forgotten about the "shelf" bit - thanks - don't want that - just want the nice straight up and down (well more down than up!) - will make sure I avoid anything with the name "continental" in the title! Good idea about a cheapy actually.

Ooh I like that one cantspel - might be a bit small but I'll put it in my plan and see how it fits - thanks..... I haven't got anywhere near choosing tiles yet!! That's going to be a serious leap of faith choosing remotely!!

I'm definitely way too interested in toilets at the moment!

Has anyone tried the new Twyfords Rim free? It's supposed to be super hygienic..... I'm over thinking this, aren't i!

We had a Laufen Pro loo installed in our new shower room and its comfortable and easy to clean.
We chose a back to wall loo to the cistern is boxed in and a soft close seat, which you can take off for cleaning - apparently!

We've got a Duravit Happy D, it's pretty comfy.

You want to avoid any where the loo seat is too narrow or has a rounded profile as they dig into your bum more.

greyvix · 08/03/2012 21:29

I second Duravit Happy D. The basin is lovely too!

Shangers · 09/03/2012 01:24

Happy D's on my short list - and the basin - great to have other people vouch for it as have only seen on internet.

that laufen's lovely but we can't do back to the wall - it would look too strange with the way the rest of the bathroom is (it's totally square) .... though I do fancy the soft close option and the take off for cleaning.... and that gives me another brand and website that i hadn't considered - thanks!

the trouble with square or odd-shaped loos is finding a replacement seat when needed.

In most cases, you could buy a different seat if you found it more comfortable. In the low price range, seats are mostly thin plastic; mid-price painted "wood" (really MDF) or varnished pine. higher price are thicker solid plastic, which do last longer.
