Bracknell Area?

Hello - hoping for a bit of positive advice from this most excellent thread!

We are moving to the Bracknell area in June/July this year and were wondering if there are areas to aim for or to avoid?? We're coming home from the US after 15 yrs away so most of our research has been done online and with dim memories of going to the then 'cool' swimming pool when we were 21!

We settled on this area after hours upon hours on rightmove due to our budget & the useful location between M4 & M3. DH will be working near Marlow in Bucks (we gave up the Bucks house search, too pricey) but won't have to go in to the office every day.
I'm going to post on the primary schools thread also.
Thanks!!

Obviously the villages such as Binfield, warfield are much nicer but could be pricey. If it has to be Bracknell then avoid Easthampsted, one beginning with H which i can't remember. We stayed in Crown Wood up until 12 years ago, which while nice enough we didn't rate the schools.

The problem with Bracknell is that it isn't the same place you will remember from 15 years ago. It has been treated as the overspill for Reading housing, so isn't the nice new town built for commuters that it once was.

The Lookout is still beautiful though :-)

I have just moved from Finchampstead to Northants. Finch is lovely, good schools, close to Wokingham (much nicer town than Bracknell) but still easy access to M3 (along Nne Mile Ride to Bracknell) and M4. I guess it is probably more expensive than Bracknell though....

Binfield is nice. There has been massive development around Bracknell from Binfield towards Warfield and Bullbrook. Loads of housing and decent schools. I used to live in Birchhill which was ok but not great. Stear clear of Great Hollands and Hansworth.

Thanks for your help. It is so hard trying to zero in on an area! DH is flying back next week to go & look at some houses. I will mention Wokingham to him as well, although I think I read somewhere on MN that schools are hard to get into? Mind you, that's the case anywhere from what I've been reading...It is such a big move for us, I just want us to be comfortable, safe and happy :-)

Warfield, Binfield and the north end. Stay away from central Bracknell. As Mitchell's says, not much has changed in 15 years except the mixed social housing estates have got a bit old and more run down and there's tons of squashed in infill development.

Twyford would be nicer.

I work in Wokingham which is quite nice and nowhere near as pricey as Marlow.

TBH I'd avoid Bracknell if I were you. It's pretty dire.

Twyford's nice, as is Wargrave.

Great Hollands is where my less fragrant clients tend to live.

A friend of mine has just brought a house on the great Hollands which is lovely , though I agree that I would not choose to live there , but I think it's a bit of a myth that it is so bad ( well these days anyway ) the biggest negative is the schools are not great !

Warfield is lovely as is binfield , Wokingham is nice but the best schools in the area are private .
