We have:
Spice racks/slim shelves on the backs of the doors for tins/jars/spices etc, stepped in depth (narrowest at the top for spices)
A stone worktop halfway up inside the space - this was a vague allusion to 'cold shelves' in posh pantries. Pointless, but pretty Grin
Shelves around the sides and back - stepped in depth so cereal boxes go on bottom shelf, etc etc
A wine rack just below the stone worktop
Two full width drawers below that. One very slim (foil, clingfilm etc) and one very deep for cake boxes, large containers etc.
This is around 110cm wide, and around 70cm deep, and built in to a wall of full height units.

thanks for links & ideas so far..
Pannacotta are you having it made? where are you buying shelving etc?
I have no idea who supplies these sorts of things, or the best place to buy?

Is it going to be a cool area? You can use it to store cheese, vegetables, fruit, cakes. Good ventilation and a constant cool temperature are important if you are using it to store perishables

We will have shelves made to fit the space, for the back and one side wall.
Though I did see these IKEA shelves and thought they might do, with a bit of tweaking

Another option is to use Elfa shelving, they will do a design for you here
