mobile phone masts - how important when buying?

is there proof that they are dangerous, and in what way? I'm buying in a city, and there is one somewhere along a nearby High St., though not right next to the building, the high st. being very long (unless the search would show more hidden ones)?

thank you for all the posts! The thing I'm buying in a city, even if it's not the biggest one, and it just looks like in cities they aer everywhere! if not 100-200 yards than the radius of their waves will reach you at 500yards! or is it still worth it choosing one 500yrds away - that's hte real question.
Geordie, please do advise! did you see my post on prev page decribing the masts nearby (100-200) yards - what do you think? there are other slightly further away. Is height or output relevant? especially worried about two together with near maximum allowed output - does it mean the total is above suggested norm and more harmful? if you need exact map of the street on that link where they all show, with full decription of each, I could pm it?

In simplistic terms the more masts, the closer together and the less power needed.

Also the actual footprint from an antenna is almost teardrop shaped with the "point" being closest to the mast, so there is an area, despite being close you aren't actually being covered IYKWIM.

FWIW Dh and I both work in 3G industry, there was (unknown to either of us) a mast built about 50m from our home. It doesn't bother me.

And I agree in city centres there are 100's of antennas hidden behind fascias, in chimneys, behind stud walls and disguised as lamposts.

Feel free to pm me postcode

Can I just say here that microwaves are not ionising.

In addition, the power from mobile phone masts and mobile phones is too low to be absorbed by the water in your body.

As for distance, the power drops of according to the inverse square law - double the distance, one-quarter the power, triple the distance, one-ninth the power etc.

As someone has pointed out already, the smaller the cell, the less powerful the signal required. If a tower is a long way off, it will send out its signal with enough power to reach the next cell, so you are not going to escape it if you live in an area with a service.

Yes, Davida, I understand about distance, but I still need to know whether being 100-200yards from two masts (together) is harmful to health more than anywhere further but still in a city/town where you can't escape them. I'm none hte wiser so far!
It's encouraging that you say it;s too low to get absorbed but when two aer together and on top rate of allowed output each, and that close, would it still be too low?
Geordie please advice as you ve offered, as I need the info within next few days! it's not likely I'd actually pull out of the sale due to this but I need the knowledge - at least if it's bad will think of moving again in a few yrs!
