damaged a bit of (crap) painted wallpaper in rented flat - what should we do?

We are due to move out early next week and DH ripped a bit of this lining paper-wallpaper which has been painted white. It's a definite tear.

Should we attempt a botch job?

And if the agents notice - they will - what can we expect to be deducted financially from deposit? What's reasonable wear and tear, just out of interest?

it might be possible to damp it to soften it, and paste it back. Unless the whole wall is repainted it will not be invisible.

A skilled decorator can cut in a new piece of lining paper and delicately use filler to hide the join before repainting.

The agent will probably insist on the whole room being repapered and repainted at a premium price.

It sounds like it's getting a bit late for you to find a really good local decorator yourself.

I don't know about wear and tear. Rooms do need to be redecorated from time to time, and putting a new coat of emulsion on sound lining paper should be relatively inexpensive.

Hi PigletJohn - another great tip, thanks a lot. I've had a decorator come in and do just that. The paint goes on today. Thanks again
