Bicester, Oxon

Hope I'm posting in the right section.....

We need a bigger house. Currently in a spacious 2 bed, but need additional space as we partially work from home and have another baby coming.

We currently live in another lovely Oxfordshire market town, but the houses are extremely expensive. (Prime commuter territory.) So we are looking at Bicester, where you seem to get a lot more house for your money.

Does anyone know anything about Bicester? Which areas/roads are good? Which should we avoid? What schools do I want to live near? What do I want to avoid?

You get the idea!

Thanks in advance

Should also say we would like to live within comfortable walking distance of Bicester North station as DH's work often has him coming in and out of London. Thanks

Some of my close family live there and it's nice. There is a bus shuttle service from various areas to Bicester North which is really handy. Langford village is nice, not too sure about other areas. There are plans to regenerate the town centre which will hopefully have a positive impact on the town as the centre's a bit drab at the moment.

Thanks IrritaGirl! Very helpful. I too had heard the centre was up for a renovation. I think buying somewhere up and coming is a good move.

Anyone else have recommendations?

I heard on the news that Bicester is the fastest growing town in Europe. The new development outside town looks HUGE and is probably walkable to the station.

At the minute, my DH travels to London a couple of times a week using Bicester North station and is really, really impressed. Not sure where you are now but he says that the Chiltern line is much better than Great Western (rarely late, always seats etc). So that's a plus.

It's our closest town and it is a bit grim to be honest but everything's there. Nice mix of shops, Friday market, plenty to do with the kids. The garden centre development outside town is great too. And it's set to improve with a cinema planned.

We don't live there so I can't give you much info about roads/schools - hopefully someone who can will come along soon.

Anyone know when the aforementioned town centre regeneration is due to go ahead?

It's already started!
