Pull-out larders - replace how many cupboards?

Only have room for a 300mm wide one, but full height. Would I get two wall cupboards' worth of past its sell by date crap carefully selected gourmet jars and packets in one?

Yes they hold loads and loads!

partystress · 16/02/2012 18:05

Good! Thank you alibababababab (ooh, it's quite hard to stop isn't it?!)

Problem is if you actually fill them they end up too heavy and over time don't seem to close properly.

Not sure I will have one again because of this.

partystress · 16/02/2012 19:19

Oh, that doesn't sound so good Jicky. What happens - does it stick out from rest of the units? Where's yours from? We are looking at Howdens.

Could you have the cupboard but with pull-out internal drawers instead? That's what I did as had read on here about the weight of them. They are so much easier to use than conventional cupboards.

I loved my pull out larder unit. So much so that I chose to have one in new kitchen. Didn't find the weight to be a problem and it was easy to find things, especially in the width you are thinking partystress. Held lots too and as things didn't get stuck at the back, meant that it was a bit easier to be more organised. Still found a packet of ground almonds best before 2006 when we moved last year though. I have a mfi one which howdens supplied so mine is probably a howdens design, the concept is good as inside the pull out door are wire shelves which you should be able to fit lots in but in reality it's rubbish. The weight of tins in there was too heavy and it meant the door would open of its own accord. It was impossible to keep it closed.
We now just store cereal, pasta, tea bags and kids chocolate bars and that's it. Even then if I get carried away shopping the door opens up again.
My mum has the ikea one which is much more useful and seems to have every tin you could need in it and works so much better. If i was you unless your getting and ikea one dont bother with the pull out larders.

Mine was built by a local carpenter but using bits from Hafele who i think make the internal bits for lots of companies. The top just hangs out.

Think the cupboard SwedishEdith has sounds great - might try that next time.

Just a b&q one here, 6 years of lazy abuse later, its still going strong and I love it!

partystress · 17/02/2012 12:28

Oh dear, sounds like you don't know if it'll be a duff one until you load it Confused. SwedishEdith, if it's not too personal a question, how high are your drawers?

We got 2 under counter cupboards with pull out drawers from howdens instead - fabulous, love them.

redrubyshoes · 17/02/2012 16:21

I have one with individual drawers that can go in the dishwasher.

SwedishEdith · 17/02/2012 18:06

It's a tall cupboard and the drawers go all the way up. I think there are 4 drawers plus a pull-out basket (which is useful at the top as you can't see what's in the drawers otherwise at that height). It stores loads.

SwedishEdith · 17/02/2012 19:06

Mine's a 60cm cabinet though, if that makes a difference. A 30cm wouldn't be as heavy

greyvix · 17/02/2012 21:45

We have a full length 300 mm one. It holds all the tins; all the pasta, plus noodles and rice; some vegetables-onions and potatoes. Go for a good quality one and it'll last years. Ours is not too heavy, and wire trays mean everything is visible. I think ours is made by a Swedish company, but not Ikea.
I would strongly recommend!
