Wallpaper, what's hot? How to get feature walls right?

I consistently love VERY expensive wallpaper! I love loads of the Cole and Sons, some Sanderson. Love bold papers with a retro feel, do you have any suggestions that might better fit my pocket?

Also is it right that feature walls are on their way out? Any suggestions on contrasting painted walls with papered to look good, not too much and not like I can't afford to paper a whole room (the actual truth although some of the paper's I like would look too much on all walls)

I'm a newish mum and post baby don't have time to browse the mags and shop the decorating stores like I did, hope someone might enlighten me a bit, Thanks!

I have to say, were I to use w/p right now, it would be on all Walls, as feature Walls are dating fast. I don't have the opportunity right now, but a small room, completely papered with a smallish, busy print, would look delightful.

Lovely wallpaper is pricey I think, but you never know your luck. I recommend going to a big decorators merchants - my local one has books from all the big names, plus a lot of lovely ones I've never heard of. The range is fantastic.

Mmm I also think feature walls are quite dated.

How about using expensive wallpaper in panels, with a frame (real or painted) around it? Like a picture?

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 15/02/2012 15:42

I think it's a dated look also, I have put wall paper in very large picture frames to break up plain Walls, when the original pictures in the frame became dated. Watching with interest for ideas.

hmmm yeah that was what I was thinking too re feature walls, I was hoping for another take on it out there somewhere, I'm not sure about the panels thing, I'll have a think tho thanks minipie.

what do you think of this for a hallway or dd's room its the only cheap one I like so far!!

Have also been wondering the same thing Love quite geometrically patterned wallpaper, like the stuff from fired earth, but can't afford to do a whole room.

Fired Earth

Hi themouseranuptheclock, what kind of frames did you go for please, I kind of like ornate and contrasting with modern style/pieces (maybe I'm out of date again here) and these in themselves can cost loads.

Does anyone follow any good decorating blogs (there has to be some out there right?!) to help me come up to date with the new cool stuff?

I had ikea prints in square large light wood plain mitered frames, which I put the wallpaper in. I would love to put wallpaper in two meter by fifty centimetre White ornate frames if I spotted some, not everyone's taste I know.

I think if you have a very large room or unusual room a feature wall can look great - not so great in a small room. We had a feature wall in last house and it looked great but in our new house the rooms are just too small so are best kept clutter free. The paper we bought before was john lewis - they have a massive range. There are online sites too. Ive got one grey one in laura ashley bin end and it was fab - would have brought it with us if i could!

Even if you like expensive papers, it is worth shopping around. I found huge variety in prices for the paper we want to use - some websites were more than 3 times the price of others for the same paper.

Check out ebay business sellers etc.
