Bedroom Sharing - For how long can a boy and girl share a bedroom

We have two children at the moment and one baby on the way. By the time bay no.3 arrives Matilda will be 4 and Archie 2. We are planning to move by the time baby no.3 in 2 so in around 2 years time. Archie is not yet 2 (will be in May) so is still sleeping in a cot in our room while Matilda has our own. When baby no.3 is born Archie will have to share with Matilda, do you think it's alright for them to share till Matilda is 6 and Archie is 4 or do you think we should start looking at houses now or sooner than that. We could afford to move but would rather stay until we are sure Matilda has got a place at school, you see at the moment we are very near to our local school, whereas if we were to buy a house we would have to live a bit further from the school in order to get more space.

In Council and HA properties, they deem it reasonable for children of opposite sexes to share until the eldest is 10 years old.

I don't think there is any law surrounding sharing in private properties.

I shared with Db until he was 10th and me 13.

My 6, 4 and 2 year olds share a room. They love it Smile.

my 7 and 8 yos share through choice. I've tried splitting them but they are having none of it.

I shared with db until I was 10 and he was 8. We then moved to a bigger house and got separate bedrooms. Was ready to stop sharing by then!

Watching with interest as DD (3) and DS (4months) will be sharing when we move later this year and they will have to share for the forseeable future as we won't be able to afford to move for a long time.

But I would have hated to share a room with anyone when I was a child, never mind my brother!

I think 10 max

Thank for this, so i think Matilda and Archie will share till they are 6 & 4 at the latest. Hopefully by then we will find a three bedroom house where Archie can have his own room and Matilda and baby no.3 (who's a girl) can share the second biggest room. Are bunk-beds a good idea? Or two singles??

My B/G twins got really fed up of each other at about age 7 so we moved at huge hassle and expense so they could have their own rooms. Now they are 9 I cannot imagine them sharing.
They are wanting sleepovers with their mates and wanting to decorate to their own taste.
Mind you I shared with my brother until I was 15 and he was 12 and it was fine!

I imagine it depends on the individual children, but puberty seems a reasonable cut-off.

Unless your rooms are big, bunkbeds always a good idea. Mind, you'd have to wait till no. 3 was at least 4, wouldn't you? Mind, I am thinking of putting my girls in together. The eldest currently has a mid-sleeper, with curtains around the base, and I'm thinking it might actually work very well to just stick a mattress on the floor underneath, decorate it with fairy lights etc. It might feel lovely to have her own little 'cave', and of course it would minimise falling out risks.

we moved last year and prior to this dd and ds were sharing at age 9 & 7
