When you actually look at the diagram it shows two "live" lines going in?

Which one is live and which one is "switched live"?

(sorry if this is obvious stuff?)

"Earth, Live and Netral" apply to lots of things, but not to ordinary UK light switches. Perhaps they have used standard packaging, or they have put the wrong thing inside. Can you see the maker's name and part number?

A UK light switch, if one-way, only needs two terminals. You can use either as live and either as switched live. You will find "top" moulded into the back, to tell you which way up to fit it. The earth wire should be sleeved in G&Y and there will be a parking terminal for it in the backbox. If the switch is metak, there will be an earth terminal on the switch.

Other switches are different.

A 2-way UK light switch (hall and landing) will have three terminals. The live goes to "COM(mon) and the Switched Live(s) go to L1 or L2, it doesn't matter which, but if you are using it for one-way switching, use L1.
