Architect fees

We are hoping to extend and convert our loft. I had an architect round to discuss plans etc. He has quoted approx £1000 from start to finish - preliminary drawings, detailed drawings for planning submission and buildings control planning detailed drawings.

Does this sound about right?? We are herts/beds border if that makes a difference?

Get another quote from someone else and see it it's the same/cheaper/more expensive. Smile

Thanks Lady, I know I know I know - that would of course be the sensible thing to do Grin

I am just terribly lazy and hate doing this kind of thing! Plus I liked this particular architect, I think I could work with him and would like to use him if his quote is sound.

It sounds good to me - we're hoping to extend the kitchen and add an extra bedroom and were quoted 1500 by the architect (Notts/Lincs border so would have expected yours to be dearer)

Liking the guy counts for a lot though - if you both have similar ideas and he's approachable a slightly cheaper quote might not influence me too much

Thanks Yorky, I agree that liking him counts for a lot - have just searched old threads and his quote does seem reasonable.

I suppose I really should get some other quotes, am dreading sorting builders out as well...

Really need to get over myself!

Shameless opportunism here Wink. We are closeish to you (bucks/herts/beds borders) and hated the one achitect we've met so far, who wanted about what you've been quoted to send a student round just to measure up our existing rooms so he could think about how we use the space. Wouldn't listen, completely patronising and quite insutling now I bring myself to remember him... So if you have found one you like, I would say that is good and please link here or pm me his/her details!

We looked at architects earlier this year to do a kitchen extension and that was about the price. You may need to add a building sureyor / engineer on to that, we were quoted £500 for that bit

We paid £1K for drawings & submission etc for 2 extensions either side of our cottage for utility, office, 2 bathrooms & 3 beds. Back in 2008.
