Milton Cambridge any flooding?

Hi,

Buying a property in Milton Cambridge and came up as at risk of flooding, did google and it seems the Cambridge itself does suffer from floods due to too much rain at times.
Just need anyone who knows any instances about incidents of flooding in Milton Cambridge. If yes how bad does it gets do I need to be wary of it? Especially with all this troubles with insurance as well and potential house being unsalable too. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the risk is of surface water flooding. Historical detail is available if you download the map on the South Cambridgeshire DC website.
My South Cambs village had flooding back in 2001 after torrential rain - it doesn't seem to have affected house sales/prices!

Have your property been affected, how bad does it get?

Our South Cambs village floods every cold winter after snow melts off the fields. I've checked and its shown correctly on the map Lilymaid linked to. Someone told me that a lot of old Cambs villages have two original 'main' roads through them - the one that you use in summer, and the one you use in winter when the summer road is flooded. Don't know how true that is!

Our house isn't affected (we're up enough of a slope that the water can't make it), but it must be grim for the people who are.

Lived in Riverside area many moons ago but flood defences put in about 15 years ago seem to be doing the trick. Milton's a fair way from the river so as Lilymaid says, risk may be surface water. And global warming ...

"the one that you use in summer, and the one you use in winter when the summer road is flooded."
I think that may be true - certainly round my part of South Cambs some villages have the High Street (generally near the river/crossing the river) and the Back Road - which was probably once just a track between the fields well outside of the old village boundaries.

Have you checked with Environment Agency? Here you can type in your postcode and get local flood information. You can even find the exact coordinates for the house/street. We looked at a house in a flood plain a year ago and I ended up filling out the enquiry form asking for more (historical information) on flooding in that particular village, and whether any flood protection measures were in the plans for near future. I received an email back a few days later saying that the risk was about 1:5 Shock... We did not offer on the house, as we do like swimming, but not being washed away... Grin
Having just looked at the map for Milton, it looks like there is some risk of flooding near the Country park.

I know Milton well and am not aware that it has ever flooded. As the other poster (sorry on phone can't see other posts now started replying) says the village itself is quite far from the river, although still only a short and quite pleasant walk away. Which part of the village are you buying in?
