Do we really need to use the FIred Earth grout etc?

Have had a follow up mail with my delivery note saying "our grout complements our colours" and now panicking that we need specialist tile adhesive ffs.

Have ordered metallic tiles and don't want bog standard grout to look rubbish next to my lovely and Exp£nsiv£ (even in the sales) tiles
ADVICE greatly appreciated
TIA

Well, all I can say is that we didn't use their grout, adhesive and tile-coating stuff with their tiles when we laid our kitchen floor, and the result is fine.

On the other hand, I don't know about the metallic tiles - they may be a bit different.

Be prepared to have billions left over - FE seem to be very generous in the amount they recommend you buy for the space. I'm quite seriously musing on kitting out my garden shed in FE porcelain tiles, just because we have to do something with them!

ooh fab thanks both.

I bloody love how MN knows the answer to these things.
Yes bran, grey might work well here they are or maybe cream (or would that look grubby?) we have predominantly ordered the brassy gold (sounds yucky but they are amazing in RL) and some of all the other colours except the burgundy. (for oven splashback)

Interesting about quantity recommendations. We are retiling and new tiles are same size as the old ones but have over ordered.

Hi, I'm a bathroom designer on mat leav and used to also sell rules : ) adhesive and grout is made by diff companies so u never hVe to buy the tile manufacturers, it's just their suggestion. Basically u need a good flexible adhesive (make sure tiler doesn't dot and dab the adhesive other wise your expensive tiles will last a year or two and prob crack!) and u can buy a good coloured grout with an anti mildew agent in o make it easier to clean. A good one is Mapei and i think b&q or homebase sells this. Again make sure this is flexible too so it absorbs any movement and doesn't crack! it's always nice to match tw rout colour as near as poss tithe tile colour and if the tiles have very straight edges (rectified) the tiles can put very narrow grout joints on if you ask which always looks good too and again, makes cleaning easier Smile
