What sort of area is Epsom?

Hi all, over 12 months later and we are still house hunting and are now looking at different areas. It seems we can't afford Sevenoaks.

Can anyone tell me about Epsom? It seems convenient for rail into London and quick to the M25, but what is like to live there? Schools, houses, highstreet that sort of thing?? Are there areas that are a bit bit grim and would you call it safe? Our budget for a 4 bed house is £750k but would prefer to spend less if poss.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, hope this thread is still open?
I'm looking to move to Epsom and Farriers Road by Kiln Lane has come up with a reasonable house to rent. Does anyone know if it's nice/safe?
I read there is a gypsy caravan site nearby ...

Yes, it's an ok part. There are lots of traveller sites around this area, culturally it's very important for them.

There are 2 sides to Epsom. One more London-y (Kiln Lane side) the other more leafy (college area, Downs,Common) The leafy side is more expensive, but in the catchment atea of popular schools, is beautiful etc. Both sides are easy to walk into Epsom town.

Epsom town has changed a lot over the last few years- it now feels a lot more like a suburb of London than it did. It used to have a market town feel to it.

Epsom is great. It really is the best of both worlds. Gorgeous countryside with London on your doorstep.
