How messy is it to have walls skimmed?

I'm having my kitchen walls skimmed and just want to know if I should have my flooring replaced before or after?

The dog has eaten my lino and I'm having it replaced with 'polyfloor' indestructable bonded flooring. I'm a bit ashamed of torn flooring and the chap can lay new floor immediately whereas I have to wait for the other chap to start the walls.

Would I be better to wait?

Definitely do the floor last

It would be easier to do floor after, but plasterer will be used to working in carpeted rooms etc. They wil put super-thick dust sheets down. ASk your plasterer what he thinks.

You would be better to do the floor last. I have found skimming to be rather a drippy job - find drips everywhere! Are you having the rest of the kitchen done, or just floors and walls. If just floors and walls, you coudl have floor done and cover it and it would probably be OK but if you can wait, I would.

We had our floor done first but we have a great plasterer who doesn't make any mess. He just puts down dust sheets and even asked for a bucket and mop afterwards!

Just the floors and walls.
I'm having the polyfloor taken up over the skirtings and up the kickboards so there are no edges the dog can eat!
Thanks folks, I might talk to the 2 chaps first and see what they say.

I've just spoken to the floor guy and he wants the walls done first.
I had grey polyfloor done in the utility before Xmas and was going to have it continued through to the kitchen but he says there is wood effect in stock and he can bring some samples tomorrow night.
Brilliant!
