heat rods for quartz work top

We're having a new kitchen soon and I'm thinking I want heat rods in the quartz close to the oven. Is this worthwhile? I feel that the trivets we currently have take up too much space whilst the hear rods woudn't encroach on the work surface so much.

Can anyone tell me how much extra on top of the cost of quartz it would be for the grooves to be routed and the rods put in?

Many thanks for any advice...

Can you not just put hot stuff on the quartz? I have granite and we put stuff straight from the oven onto it, no problems.

Not really. Theoretically you should not put hot pans etc on to quartz or granite and at £3k for a work top I don't fancy proving them wrong.

Homebase sells metal glue on heat rods (they will need to order them). They work well.

Quartz and granite are igneous rocks, formed under volcanic conditions at thousands of degrees. What harm can a pan do it?

My understanding is that the epoxy resin in the quartz can discolour and the shiny surface can dull with heat application.

Thank you dikkertjedap - I have seen the Homebase ones but am wondering if it's possible or prohibitely expensive to have the inlaid. I'm sure I viewed a house once with a Corian worktop and the rods were inlaid.

Ah, I see, my surface is just a slab of granite, I can put anything on it! Hadn't realised the quartz is set in a resin. I would have thought the stick on rods would be cheaper, more versatile and easier to clean round though.

The rods should actually come out to be washed.

I'll just have to ask the kitchen man tomorrow. I just didn't want to have to ask him if it's going to be mega-bucks and I have to say 'no thanks'.
