Do you have tiles behind your loo- is this important?

I am planning a new bathroom, unfortunately I am a bit clueless so turning to MN for some advice.

Bath is on along same wall as loo. Area around bath will be fully tiled as our shower will be over the bath.

Bathroom fitter has suggested that we should extend tiles all the way along the wall right behind the loo. I was hoping to keep the tiled area to a minimum- bathroom is currently tiled floor to ceiling and it feels cold and clinical.

So, should I have tiles behind the loo- will this look better and/or be easier to clean? I don't think DP ever splashes the wall even with his worst aim!!

All thoughts on the matter would be gratefully received.

We don't have tiles behind our loo and its fine. No problems with splash marks!

Do you think tiler might be suggesting this because it saves leaving a raw edge where the tiles would stop at the end of the bath? If so, you can get edging to cover that. I wouldn't tile behind a loo just for hygiene reasons, but then I would probably tile the walls completely anyway as I prefer that to part tiled walls.

We've got tiles behind ours. My only gripe is the condensation problems we have Angry mean that steam turns to mould/mold.
My one piece of advice is to get an extractor fan. Our is going to cost £350 to fit.

I would definitely tile or shower board it. A hard wipeable surface is much more hygienic than painted wall I would have thought.

I reckon tile behind it. Easy to swab. Do it before the WC is fitted for a neater job.

It''s large expanses of white tiles that make a room look like a public lavatory. Tiles in warm mottled or matching tones don't have that effect.

I've been thinking about this today as we're in the middle of a renovation. I was gonna tile both bathrooms but really need to save costs. Bathroom we now have is partially tiled (bath/shower & sink splashback) & its been OK for us for the past 10 yrs. I have 2 bathrooms to tile & that is gonna be an expense so I've decided to tile round the bath & panel (overhead shower) & splashback & the shower in the en suite & again a spashback. Seeing its not much I will do this myself to save £££. I can then paint it in a nice calm colou.

Oh & you won't ger a raw edge with tiles if you use a tidy tile trim.

We have tiles behind the loo but it is built in (so you cant see the cistern).
