Tesco kitchen anyone?

First post in here so hello.

We are after a new kitchen this year and I see that Tesco have started doing kitchens. Does anyone have one or know anything about them? The one I like is in their 'value' range but I'm worried that the quality may be as bad as their baked beans. Anyone know anything about them?

Thank you

Hi, I posted a similar post 6 months ago, got no response! We had them come round to give us a quote. It was around the same price as B&Q type kitchen. We didn't go with them for various reasons, there are no show rooms so unable to see the finished look. Also it isn't tesco as such, they have given their name to another company (whose name I can't remember), who used to supply MFI. This put me off as had poor quality stuff from MFI in our bathroom!! I also found the guy who came round a bit pushy!! Probably doesn't help you !! The large amount of club card points was enticing though!!

Sausagedog27 · 06/01/2012 20:36

I don't really know about them but they are probably affiliated to a larger company- ie Argos and home base are the same. If it was for a rental property I'd prob say ok but if it's for your own house I'd be tempted to invest a bit more as I think it will be better in the long run. Some local companies are often cheaper than big companies and much better quality. Hth.

My friend's parents have recently gone for a Tesco kitchen. It cost them approx £16k all in including appliances. My friend thought it seemed expensive for the quality. Nothing actually wrong with the kitchen IYSWIM but could have got better quality for the same money by going with an independent.

ronx · 06/01/2012 20:59

Just like the rest of their stuff, then. Grin

NoGoodAtHousework · 06/01/2012 21:10

If they're anything like the flat pack furniture ....utter crap that would never spend a penny on again.

miserablemum · 07/01/2012 12:02

16k for a Tesco kitchen Shock

snowmummy · 07/01/2012 13:57

Thanks all. We're going to get them round for the design and see from there but I think an independent sounds likely.

I'd recommend Wickes. Great value kitchens (their take-away kitchens range) and good customer service (unlike Tesco!)

PigletJohn · 07/01/2012 14:19

IMO the fitting is the most important part. I expect to employ my friendly local joiner, and pay his daily rate, next time I have a change of kitchen. The kitchen fitters charge a premium price and are not always especially good.

You can buy your own choice of boxes, tops and cornices from any supplier without having to be tied to their fitting scheme. It does help if you have some knowledge of building and ancillary techniques, kitchen fitters are notorious for poor-quality and non-compliant electrical and plumbing work.

Becaroooo · 08/01/2012 15:13

Agree with pj

We had a howdens kitchen at our last house and our local builder/joiner fitted it for us. (He got it for us and only charged us trade price as it took him 3/4 days to fit! It was quite a large kitchen!)

Wickes and Ikea kitchens look good quality and are both guaranteed for 25 years AFAIK.

My next kitchen will be from either on of them!

You have no idea what you are buying with tesco as you can't see the product

The designs I've seen from there tend to go for the -how many cupboards can I physically ram in -school of design and are not brilliant

They also won't sell supply only so the costs are not very transparent

dippymother · 17/05/2013 11:17

We had Tesco quote for a kitchen and a bathroom. The designs were ok but they are not interested in doing ceiling lights, tiling, flooring, plastering walls etc apart from what's needed for the actual fitting of the kitchen, as it wasn't worth it to them - they just want to do as many kitchen fittings as possible with no extras. Quote for kitchen was £16,000 without appliances but with a granite worktop, bathroom was £11,500, both of which I thought was way too much, and certainly not worth the extra clubcard points!

I'm shocked by what some retailers are asking for kitchens. My experience, as a DIYer having installed two kitchens, last year re-modelled our kitchen with Ikea fitting it myself with plumbing and electrics done by tradesmen. We have the following: 22-base units; Integral oven and microwave in full-height unit; 800mm induction hob; 2m x 1m peninsular worktop; 1 x 3.2m worktop; 1 x 1.8m worktop; One-and-a-half sink and tap; 6-full height wall units; and 36 handles. Price including the appliances: £4400 including the trades. I'm impressed by the quality and sturdiness of the drawers, which pull-out full depth, and the general ease of installation. OK, I did the construction and wall and floor tiling which took three-weeks spare time work....

mermaidmum2 · 06/06/2013 23:33

Had a terrible experience with a Tesco/Mark 2 kitchen, please avoid if possible, my kitchen fit has taken 6 months and workers have visited so many times to correct items broken or damaged or falling off, they come to correct work and break something else. The appliances are CDA, very poor quality, my oven arrived & was fitted with a broken fan, they refused to replace the item they fitted broken by saying 'we are well within our rights to repair it'. Sent repair man, re-fitted with another broken fan, spilt superglue all over my brand new flooring, now left with damaged flooring I only had a couple of weeks ago & nobody will respond to my requests to see what they intend to do about it. It is a shame customers have to part with thousands and feel the need to resort to negative blogs to get any response from mark 2/Tesco once they have taken all your money. I believe that Tesco should step in because it is branded in their name and Mark 2 are creating an horrendous reputation for Tesco. My wall cupboard trims have already fallen off twice, we have had floods, electrical problems and one free unit (island) that has completely fallen apart.
I hear IKEA are a better bet, AVOID TESCO KITCHENS AT ALL COSTS. /emo/te/6.gif

You can not just say "kitchen fitters are notorious for poor-quality and non-compliant electrical and plumbing work" we have never installed electrics, plumbing or gas to any substandard levels, in this day an age all work has to be certified in accordance with regulations. Do not tar us all with that mucky brush..

What's with all the advertising on Zombie threads?

janetbennett · 16/08/2013 16:15

We've just had a kitchen fitted, bought kitchen from DIY.kitchens.co.uk, pleased with units etc. Our fitter was also impressed with quality of units etc. Plenty of good reviews

Mrsladybirdface · 16/08/2013 17:29

for future reference diy kitchen spam this site

RoseFlowerFairy · 16/08/2013 17:34

I can't be arsed to report it, if we keep telling people it is spam, rather than message deleted, then MNetters won't want anything to do with them!

Mrsladybirdface · 16/08/2013 17:53

they may be a good company but I wouldn't trust the reviews based on the current spam marketing strategy!

fossil971 · 16/08/2013 18:24

What spam?

bimbabirba · 16/08/2013 22:38

I hate spam on MN. And I hate Tesco Kitchens/mark 2.
Very dodgy company. I wouldn't deffo not recommend.

SAGN · 06/01/2014 14:42

AVOID TESCO KITCHENS.

I recently used them and have regretted it ever since. they lured you with free fitting. Don't fall for it. Once they have your money that is it. They are only using Tesco's name. It has nothing to do with tesco. I had problems from day one. the final straw was that their 'free fitter' left unmovable grout stains on my new graphite sink. They said because it is not a manufacturing defect that they cannot change it and that they are not responsible for any mistakes or damage caused by their 'free fitter'. They bury any problems with tons of emails. They want to charge me almost £400 for new sink.
The cupboard doors are hanging off. I have had them round twice to repair cupboard doors. I now have a 7month old kitchen that looks like a 20yr old one. My kitchen was so poorly designed that I ended up with less space than I had before. They send in sales men who claim to be kitchen designer.
avoid them at all cost.
