Curtains or blinds

We've two new rooms after an extension, a bedroom and a sunroom and other rooms need decorating. Dh is keen on blinds, most houses round here have them. I have concerns about cleaning then and I think curtains are cosier.

If you have blinds how are they?
Do you think I have to have the same throughout the house or could I have blinds in some room and curtains in another?

when you say blinds are you thinking roller blinds or venetians or similar or something softer like Roman blinds? Romans are popular in bedrooms i find as they don't take up any space and you don't need much fabric so can splash out on something fabulous. Curtains obviously better for insulating and keeping light out. But in a sunroom you may need something specialised - conservatory blind specialists may help.

no need IMO to have the same treatments throughout the house

What sinclair said, plus it depends on the size of the room. A smaller room can benefit from roman blinds at the windows as they take up less space around the window. A larger room looks better with the fullness of curtains. Try to have full length curtains, these without fail look better than cill-length. Where you have a radiator under the window, a roman blind looks better than cill-length curtains IMO. You can give a roman blind a bit more presence by adding a flat, straight based pelmet. Plain contrast piping along the base of the pelmet can look v smart.
