so I have narrowed down to these two....

B&q carisbrooke country

Or

Ikea ramsjo.

Now which do I choose? Both are painted wood....which is better quality?

I can't comment on the quality however Ikea kitchen units are not standard sizes (just something to bear in mind with fitting)

Ah- I've just (yesterday) purchased my first IKEA kitchen, after posting on here for advice- most people were very positive about their, and I didn't see any anywhere else that I really really liked. My thread is still around if you want to look at what other people said about their IKEA kitchens.

My dad has a B&Q kitchen, and the quality seems to be fine, but he had all sorts of hassle getting it delivered- took ages, then delivered on wrong day (with bits missing), then a second one delivered a week later!!

Having said that, I am sceptical that my new kitchen will be delivered in its entirety on the day it's meant to come if the guy who arranged the delivery is anything to go by!! But we shall wait and see!

We had B&Q, very happy with it, but we did get our own person in to fit it. Quality is good, no problems so far.

It also comes down to the cost of the interior fittings. I like drawers that pull out so I am not reaching over things to get stuff at the back.

Units wise B&Q and Ikea are even on the units we liked, but the cost of the interior fittings at B&Q were extortionate Shock

Mum and dad had a lot of hassle with B&Q and their kitchen, delivering the wrong sections, then expecting them to wait 6 weeks for a new side panel etc

Have you tried Howdens? They have some lovely kitchens and always in stock so any mistakes can be fixed straight away, and prices good. May not be as cheap as Ikea but I'd expect cheaper or on a par with B&Q

miserablemum · 02/01/2012 18:04

I looked at B&Q and liked the one you mention, but thought this one from Howdens was lovely too. The image does it no justice you can see the woodgrain through the paint - it's just lovely

I had quotes from 7 companies in the end (not B&Q as I didn't think their stuff was as good) and we're going with Howdens.

Hope its of some help

Kayzr · 02/01/2012 18:04

We have had nothing but hassle with our B&Q kitchen and wouldn't wish a B&Q kitchen on our worst enemy.

The draws are awful and don't open without having to really pull on them. The worktop is coming apart, the oven wasn't put in properly and DP pulled it out when he opened it.

Bloody useless

miserablemum · 02/01/2012 18:05

This inframe one was lovely too but a lot more expensive due to the inframe

Thanks! Miserable mum, we need the 0% finance option, don't think howdens do this?

I love my ikea kitchen.......can't fault it really, few niggles but really good for the amount they cost

miserablemum · 03/01/2012 15:10

0% is always appealing!!!!!!

hannabelle · 29/01/2012 04:12

We have the carisbrooke and although the design is lovely the quality of the product and b and q's fitting service is bad. Really not a cheap kitchen and after six months it is not wearing well. The paint rubs off, you can see daylight through the drawers, none of the frames have been put on straight. The base units aren't as good quality as our old mfi kitchen and I can't imagine it will be going strong in 25 years like my parents' magnet one!

Ixia · 02/02/2012 21:47

I fitted Ikea in our previous house, there was one type of unit that Ikea didn't make, so I adjusted a B&Q unit to fit. The B&Q carcass was far poorer quality as was the hardware. Ikea uses Blum hardware, Blum is a top notch company.

Currently we have a Magnet kitchen, no issues with that, apart from the expense. If Ikea had done the style I wanted then I would have bought from them again, no contest.
