A question about colour for back painted glass backsplash

In our soon to be new kitchen, our architect friend thinks we should have a back painted glass backsplash (our cupboards are matt spray painted).

I quite the like the idea - but I don't like the thought of a very bright, lurid glass. I like fairly flat colours. If I choose a Farrow and Ball soft colour, will it come out like that?

Or has anyone chosen a colour that looks fairly flat? Any suggestions? I've seen lots of lime on google, which is right for some people, but not for me.

I suppose I just want some thoughts on it as a backsplash

it will come out slightly darker and slightly greener, even if the glass looks perfectly clear.

If you paint the back of glass, it will look glossy from the front.

Assume you're buying the glass pre painted? If so ask the place you're purchasing from what they offer. Most have a standard colour range then will be able to provide any RAL colour (industry standard colour pallet) also if it's for behind the hob make sure it's the right thickness and type of glass to ensure it doesn't crack from the heat of the hob.

Would definitely recommend buying pre painted to ensure you get an even colour & that it doesn't flake.

You could always go for a white back painted glass, it's neutral & won't date.

They're fab, easier than tiling & v easy to clean.

I don't think you can just fit glass that's been painted - you need toughened and special-painted glass. I fitted burgundy painted glass as splashbacks in my previous kitchen and black painted glass in the utility and it looked fab. Iam goingto do it again in my new kitchen. If you get it from a specialist glass shop they will have their own colours, and a sample you can take away

Hello

Thanks all - it's being made specifically by our carpenter so we can have any colour we want, really - I could pick a farrow and ball, for example, and he'll try and match it.

White may look nice...

I have got back painted glass splashbacks. It's toughened glass but not been specially painted - my dad did it! We used F&B wimborne white I think and it came out a pale greeny blue colour due to the glass. Not a lurid colour at all.

You can apparently buy totally clear glass if you don't want the greeny blue effect, but it costs quite a bit more as it has to be specially pure glass.

We've got black and it looks fab, its so easy to clean, can't imagine why anyone Would ever tile.
I originally had my Eye on a bright green one but was talked out of it. So glad now though, I would have got fed up with the colour very quickly.

Thanks all - I think we're going to go for an off white. Nice and simple. Though clear glass sounds good too...

Off white will end up pale greeny blue (we have this) unless you get the special super clear glass.

If you go for clear (not painted) glass, make sure you seal around the edges, otherwise dirt and flies will end up sandwiched between the glass and the walls (which is what we had when we moved in )

We have a kind of greeny-blue aqua colour with a totally white kitchen and it looks beautiful. It is the kind of colour that will not date (or at least I will not get too bored with it).
