Low bed?

DH and I are getting a loft conversion in March (hoorrray finally!!!). The ceiling will be low-ish compared to the rest of the house which is a Victorian terrace job.

We are thinking of getting a low bed to make the room look bigger. First of all does that make sense? I just didn't want a small gap between the top of the headboard and the ceiling, thought it might look squat.

I have seen really low beds like this

and also quite low ones like this one

Our current bed is a divan with storage drawers underneath. It's quite high, I have to kind of hop on to it. I have never had any other kind of bed. What do you reckon, would the low one be annoying? Our status - I am on the short side, DH is very tall. We are currently TTC so hopefully there will be a pregnancy and baby in the equation some time in the next 18 months.

TIA

I have two low single beds in our converted loft.
It works as a concept and makes the room seem larger.
the only problem is standing up from a very low bed

I have quite a low bed (similar to your second option). I really like it and don't find it annoying - and I am short-ish and don't have to hop onto it which is a plus. DH is v tall and doesn't find it a problem either. I would guess it is better for DC too.

The only difficulty is that it is really hard to find low bedside tables. Most are 60cm or over, so you end up reaching up quite a long way if you are in bed and want to get your glass of water or turn the lamp on or whatever. Oh and of course the underbed storage is more limited too.

I wouldn't go for the really low platform style like your first link - first because it's harder to get into and out of as 7to25 says, second because you will constantly be bashing your shins on the wooden platform.

good luck with TTC! am on that road myself Smile

What about this website

www.warrenevans.com/beds/

They have low bedside tables too. Hth.

Yes I got a bed from Warren Evans before. It is quite nice but we don't want wood, we either want a mixture of wood & upholstery or just upholstery.

Minciepie I totally didn't think of bashing my shins off the platform. You are so right. And that would drive me mental.

Actually I quite like this one from Warren Evans. Though I wonder how it would look with a duvet.

Thanks very much for the tip re low bedside cabinets!

OOooooo. They do upholstered beds now, used to be just wooden when I bought mine 6 years ago from them. That one is v nice. FrigidHare you might just be a genius. Good price too!

Glad to be of service! Yes, the prices are very good there, and it looks like quality stuff.

Funnily enough, we were looking for a low bed for our loft bedroom too and quite fancied the Cuba bed from Warren Evans. However, we went to the showroom and thought the Cuba looked a little flimsy and also if the mattress moved a bit (like it did in the showroom as there is no sides to hold it in...), the slats showed and it didn't look great.

We went for the low deco bed in the end. Don't be put off by the dark colour in the picture as we got ours done in teak satin and it's beautiful. The service was excellent, we ordered the bed on the proviso that it had to come before Xmas (we ordered in early Dec Blush) and it came as they said it would, with a 3-hour delivery slot and they built the bed within about 15 minutes. And we love it, it's so comfy (we did pay obscene amounts of money for a tempur mattress and incidentally, the tempur mattress was cheapest we could find anywhere).

We have a low bed, a bit like the low deco one except ours has a lip around the edge - almost like a wooden shelf. That was definitely a shin bruiser to begin with. Depends how you look at it as to whether its good for children - low enough for them to just climb in - depends on what time of the morning it is as to whether thats a good thing or not :). At least in the early days when they tumbled off it wasn't high enough to hurt themselves (I'm joking!).
