Kitchen-would it be ridiculous...

...to have 2 undercounter fridges and 1 undercounter freezer? Our kitchen is so awkward it will be hard to fit in a freestanding fridge... And with an integrated fridge freezer I will lose my eye level oven..... I am so confused.... Do you think I should ditch the under counter ideas and go back to the drawing board?

I used to have an undercounter fridge and freezer, and I was so happy the day they were ripped out.

It is so difficult to get to anything at the bottom / back, and when I was heavily pregnant they were virtually unusable.

Also, they use a lot of potential cupboard space yet are tiny inside. If I were you I would be going back to the drawing board and looking at a fridge freezer if at all possible.

A friend of mine has an undercounter fridge that is like 2 deep pan drawers, she says it is ace as you can get to everything easily and is really easy to stack things in

Inspirachion · 28/12/2011 13:58

That's what we're having actually. Would have preferred fridge freezer but have been concentrating on how we use a kitchen space wise and wanted to maximise worktop areas so someone using toaster was not in the way of someone using kettle/hob/breadmachine/other piece of random gadgetry as that is what will reduce aggro in our house Blush

One freezer and 2 fridges under the worktop I mean

Pannacotta · 28/12/2011 14:20

I think it would be fine if you went for frirdge drawers rather than a usual undercounter fridge, something like this

we used to have under-counter fridge & freezer - one of each - & I agree completely with biscuitnibbler, they were useless (also, although they were Bosch, the build quality was poor & drawers etc cracked easily)

we now have an LG American-style & it's unbelievably wonderful!

however if you really don't have the floorspace, Petite, then those drawer fridges do look clever; but how much height do they have, for eg pop bottles, or even just milk & juice? does most of it have to lie down?

I would prioritise eye level fridge over eye level oven, any day. Much more important to be able to see into the fridge easily.

molschambers · 28/12/2011 15:17

Loose the eye level oven and go for a big fridge/freezer. If you have a utility room or garage where you could put an additional freezer then that's useful and gives you more fridge room in the kitchen.

Pannacotta · 28/12/2011 17:24

Petite you could post a plan of your kitchen and we can all have a butchers and see if there is a better solution.
I suppose you use your fridge much more than your oven so it makes sense to prioritise this.

miserablemum · 28/12/2011 17:56

Have to agree - put the oven under the counter and get yourself a big fridge!

We're getting one from Howdens - a full height larder fridge (no space really for an american type) and its under £500 i think, and Ikea do a good sized undercounter freezer for £250....

Hassled · 28/12/2011 17:59

Agree that eye level fridge is way more important than eye level oven. If it were me I'd start with the freestanding fridge/freezer and work everything else around that.

puffylovett · 28/12/2011 18:00

I loathe and detest my under counter fridge and freezer. I can't wait for an American stylee fridge freezer! Lose the eye level oven :)

RandomMess · 28/12/2011 19:02

It's funny we had a serious lack of worktop space and I've chosen to have undercounter fridge and freezer again and it just doesn't bother me, much prefer having an eye level oven. Personal preference does come in to it.

Can you upload your floorplan for the kitchen and see if we can help?

You can get extra narrow fridge/freezers or you get an ultra narrow tall fridge and go for an undercounter freezer (as you use those less often)

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 28/12/2011 19:08

I'm torn too. At the moment we have an undercounter fridge and a normal oven. I seriously miss the eye level oven and a 'proper' fridge. However, due to the small/odd space that is the kitchen, even when we re-do it there wont be room for both, really. So will have to make the same decisions as you :(

RandomMess · 28/12/2011 19:25

Looking through the fridge is perhaps more hassle but I just find the eye level oven so much safer Confused

Also with the fridge the dc were quite young when they could start helping by fetching things from it Smile
