Seriously - it's quite ridiculous - but great!!!!!

I've just had a quote for Silestone quartz almost £1k cheaper than i was given last week by a different firm - both established a long long time, guarantees etc. And i thought the one i got midweek and £400 cheaper was good!!! Went to 4 places in total.

Kitchen fitter is going to be £2k cheaper than Wickes, for a bigger job and more work. Howdens came in with fab price for oak units - better than 7 (!!) other companies i went to.

Appliances i have chosen vary buy £100's online.

New window prices have varied by 30%.

I may well have spent hours online researching but my word it pays off!!!!

Now to find the best price for my floor Grin

You definitely have to shop around. Wickes have dreadful reputation for poor fitting so glad you avoided that.

Just got our kitchen from Homebase. They quoted £144 for handles. We paid £38 at IKEA.

We used an independent shop in our local high street for flooring; good price, great service and supporting a local business.

I'm glad i avoided wickes too....their quote for just units and fitting was almost our whole budget!!!! (no flooring, no building work, no lighting, no appliances!!!)

Off to look at Ikea.....again Smile

Oooh, we have just recieved a horrendously high quote for a silestone quartz worktop, where are you getting yours from?

miserablemum · 18/12/2011 15:39

Here www.finchgranite.com/ - We've been quoted around £2k incl templating and fitting. Another company wanted almost £3K - crazy!!!!!

did you go to howdens direct or through your builder/kitchen fitter?

miserablemum · 19/12/2011 08:40

I went to see Howdens and they gave me the name of a fitter so we're using him.

you need to change your name from miserable to bargainfinder Xmas Grin

It does pay to shop around, especially for big items. I got our kitchen from MAgnet and managed to get a really good deal. Got an independant kitchen fitter to fit kitchen and I got all appliances online by myself too. SAved ££££s in total.

newgirl · 22/12/2011 16:45

our wickes fitter was self-employed but has a contract with wickes - he was by far the cheapest of any builder/fitter we approached. Did a good job. We got a limestone top for a bathroom sink unit from a london warehouse that does hotels for £240 cut to our spec - £800 cheaper than Fired Earth.

libelulle · 22/12/2011 20:10

Newgirl - can you post details of that warehouse please?! Sounds just what we need.

newgirl · 22/12/2011 20:40

Really sorry I can't remember name it was near ikea north London so search for north circular. They needed a template and cut to order same day. Our builder told us so yours might know it?

libelulle · 22/12/2011 20:49

No worries, I'll have a search, thanks newgirl.
