Border tiles in bathroom - horizontal or vertical??

So, we're getting our bathroom tiled next week (basic round the bath type job). We're hoping to put the house on the market in a few months and don't have much of a budget so were planning on putting up plain white tiles. I had thought of using a horizontal border to break it up, but our tiler tells me that vertical borders are the latest thing.

Any thoughts? And if I go for a horizontal border where does it go? Just on the back wall? One or two lines? We're tiling the back wall from the bath up to the ceiling and each end of the bath as well as a small area over the sink.

TIA.

I put vertical tile borders in my bathroom and toilet. They look nice but work out more expensive and are more fiddly to do. in my next place I'll have one horizontal border at picture rail level for simplicity/economy's sake.

Ithink horizontal is quite dated. Id go for vertical...

Thanks, I'm not too worried about the fiddliness (I don't think that's a word!) as the tiler is happy to do it. This whole vertical business is new to me though as I've never had a border. Would I just put one line up the middle of the wall or would I space two in the main wall? Do I need some on each end of the bath (which is where it would start to put the price up)? What about the tiles about the sink - would I need one there? Xmas Confused

I did big white tiles with a few mosaic stripes, which is why it put the price up. I just had a mosaics nehind the sink.

Perhaps you could have a look round an ultra posh bathroom or tile showroom for inspiration?

Vertical and depending on the setup you can use less of the more expensive borders.

I find a horizontal border can make it look smaller. But do you need a border at all? If its for sale maybe bring in colour with the paint on the walls or nice colour towels ect to dress the room and you can take them with you Smile

Thanks. I'm thinking of mosaic stripes NotAnotherNewNappy. If I did two stripes on the main wall alongside the bath would look ok? i.e. the white tiles would be in 3 blocks interspersed with two mosaic stripes. What colour mosaic tiles did you use?

Cowboylover, I've really hummed and ha'd over whether a border is needed at all, but our other furniture in the bathroom is while and I think it needs something. The walls will be a pale grey/blue colour (to tone in with the floor so it won't be replaced).

I might try and get to a showroom to have a look, but the tiler is coming on Monday and I'm at work all week so time is fairly limited!
