They seem cheaper than anywhere else but that makes me nervous..

We have had two for 9 years, they have lasted very well and the delivery drivers were polite and very careful about not making a mess when unwrapping and coming into the house. We were a bit dubious to begin with but our children had reduced the previous very exensive Tetrad sofas to tatty threadbare legless things in less than 3 years and we wanted heavy duty leather to withstand the onslaught.

We've had one for what must be 10 years now. The last three it's had a child clambering all over it.

It's not as full as it was before but it's still going strong!

They are fine - my first withstood cats and ds, (about 9 years) and the others have withstood cats and ds and still look fine (they are in the tidy sitting room though).

We also have an IKEA Ektorp which has withstood ds from 10-16 and a cat. I have three sets of washable covers, so change them when necessary.

Speaking as I find, we had a lovely corner sofa from dfs reasonably priced delivered on time and is still going strong 7 years later.

Have a read of the consumer rights section on moneysavingexpert.com,there must be a complaint about DFS sofas on every page,I wouldnt touch them with a barge pole.

I can only tell you of my friend's experience. By the time she started paying for her DFS sofa (she bought it on a buy now, pay later thing), it had started to look very shabby, the side had collapsed, and one of the feet had buckled. It was only her and her DH that had been sitting on it, neitehr were unusually heavy or anything like that, and it had never been moved.

She was in a battle for a replacement/refund with DS for about 18 months.

I woudl avoid them, tbh.

Then again, my sofas are 8 years old now and still going strong from laura Ashley, and I woudl 100% recommend them. Yet others would avoid Laura Ashley furniture too.

My DFS sofas are still going strong after 11 years. DH wants to change them for a different style but I'm reluctant to swap them for some that might not last so well.

Bellie · 12/12/2011 12:45

mine are still going strong after 15 years (and 2 kids!). They do need replacing now though as the braiding on the cushion edges is coming undone (thanks ds!!), and are looking a bit shabby after juice spills etc.

However - this is more cosmetic than structural. The main structure of the sofas are still good and would probably go back to have another look when we get round to it in the new year.

Tbh, we have a dfs sofa and within weeks, someone sat on it and the support timber cracked. The cushions haemorrhage feathers all the time. Drives me mad.

Now if you can afford it, buy one from Multiyork. They are brilliantly made and very durable. The quality is fantastic. In the long run, well worth the money.

VivaLeBeaver · 12/12/2011 16:46

I think for the majority of people their sofas are fine. I think if you get a bad one their customer service is crap and you're stuck with a barely patched together sofa.

We have had a DFS corner suite for about 6 years and it was great, just moved house and unfortunately the sofa would not fit in our new living room :( so had to buy again. Brought our new sofas from www.simplystylishsofas.co.uk really friendly staff and the sofas are fantastic. I have read some horror stories about buying sofas on various forums but my experience so far with these 2 companies has been great (touch wood).
